I am not a professional, but I need to transfer a series of DigiBeta tapes. I’ll use a Sony J30/SDI to do it. My PC (Intel core i7, graphics card Gigabyte Z390UD, 16 GB RAM) is equipped with the Blackmagic Decklink SDI 4K. The card is installed correctly (cf. device manager) with the latest drivers, and is recognized by Blackmagic Media Express and by Adobe Premiere Pro CC.

To test the combination before hiring the Sony J30/SDI, I connected my Sony DSR-20P using a SDI cable. Yet, I cannot capture: Blackmagic Media Express and Adobe Premiere do not find the Sony DSR-20P device. However, when I connect the Sony DSR-20P to my PC using a firewire cable, Adobe Premiere manages to capture without any problem (not Blackmagic Media Express because it needs the Blackmagic Decklink SDI connection).

Why do the programs not recognize the Sony DSR-20P when I use a SDI cable? Can it be that something is wrong with my SDI cable or with the SDI output of the Sony DSR-20P? Or is there any feature I omitted?

Thank you very much for your help.

  2. The DSR-20P does not have an SDI output. It has composite, S-Video and DV.
SDI and composite use identical BNC connectors, perhaps that is the cause of the confusion?
