    Hello!

I have a couple of SVCD images, but unfortunately my DVD player (Toshiba SD-1750) does not recognize the SVCD format (gives a "Disc Error" message).

I attempted to "fool" it by ripping the MPEG2 stream from the SVCD image, which worked fine, and then using vcdimager to burn the image in VCD format (which my DVD player *does* recognize). Unfortunately, when I popped the CD into the DVD player, id did indicate that it was playing, but I was getting nothing but black screen. <shrug> So much for that idea.

I know it' spossible to convert an MPEG2 stream to MPEG1 (using DVD2AVI, I think??), but I was wondering if such a tool exists for Linux? It doesn't matter if it's GUI or commandline-based (actually, commandline based would be preferable).

Thanx, in advance, for your help.

    Alan

  2. transcode (see other posts for links). It is command-line and you can do something like this:

    transcode -V -y mpeg -F v,4 -E 44100 -b 224 -o test -i mymovie.mpg
    tcmplex -o test.mpg -i test.m1v -p test.mpa -m v
