  1. does anyone know how to change monitor resolution on linux. im a newbie to it but it has something to do with X-window right? Red hat 7.2 with KDE or GNOME

    Try the keyboard shortcuts: Ctrl and "+" or Ctrl and "-" (The actual "+"and "-"keys on the far right of the keyboard). By holding Ctrl and pressing either "+", or "-", it should scroll through each resolution that is setup up in your Xfree86 config file (called XF86Config, I'm not sure where it is kept on Red Hat systems but try looking in /etc/X11). You can also run various X config tools: XF86Setup or ConfigXF86.
    Besides that, Red Hat should have an X configurator of some kind buried somewhere in the KDE/GNOME "Start" menus.
