Since MakeMKV.com is down, I noticed there now seems to be a MakeMKV.net. The site clearly looks different but appears to be the new (maybe paid) version of MakeMKV.com.

Does anyone know if .net is the same legit site, or is it malicious?

    Thanks, Jim

^^ Well that explanation appears odd since the forum addr suggests a sub-domain of the main site. And if the main site can not be accessed then neither would the forum.

I am sure if I forgot to pay my hoster my sub-domain(s) would also not be accessable.

Sub-domains don't have to be hosted by the same provider. Where I work we have several sub-domains, all hosted by different outfits.

The .net site is highly likely a scam.

    makemkv.com site info:

The .com info has been the same since at least 2011 and registered since 2008. https://www.avsforum.com/threads/are-mkvs-really-1-1-copies.1339597/page-2 I believe Kvasha Mihail is the developer.

The .net domain was registered in 2020 with hidden owner and admin, and completely different address. Red flag #1

The .net page has numerous grammatical errors and is clearly not the same person(s) who administers the .com site and forum. Red flag #2

The translated text from the .com page:

POSSIBLE REASONS FOR BLOCKING A SITE:
    - PAYMENT FOR HOSTING HAS ENDED ( NOT DOMAIN! ). YOU NEED TO TOP UP YOUR BALANCE. PAYMENT FOR HOSTING IS DEBITED DAILY FROM YOUR ACCOUNT BALANCE.
    - YOUR SITE HAS BEEN BLOCKED FOR VIOLATING THE HOSTING RULES . IF YOU HAVE BROKEN THE RULES, GO TO YOUR PERSONAL ACCOUNT AND CHECK THE " MESSAGES " SECTION . THERE MAY BE COMPLAINTS.

Most likely the developer/owner just failed pay the hosting fee for some reason. He's been know to be AWOL, sometimes for months as when the software key expires. MakeMKV is a one man show and work of love for him. Hopefully he's well.
