Divx Video???

I have this divx movie I was gonna burn so I could watch it whenever I wanted ( I Don't have a big Hard drive ). So I went to a cd cover site, and some of the covers said "Divx Video" on it. This got me wondering. Is a Divx video something you burn along with the divx file. Or is it something else that I don't know. I was going to give a copy to a friend, but he doesn't have the divx codec. Would a Divx Video play on a comp without additional software. And is there a site for it? Please help, I'm confused.

DivX is a video format that can only be played on your computer. Depending on the files size the picture quality can approach DVD at its best and VHS at its worse.
