  1. Newbie questions here.

I am confused as to what framerates i should use.

I have only decoded/encoded a couple of movies but I've found that the video playback is sometimes too fast until i add the audio and then mostly it's out of synch.
How do i tell what framerate my source is ?
How do I tell the difference between NTSC & NTSC film ?

Also when using ffmpegx i noticed this :

Seems that stream 0 comes from film source: 29.97->28.54

Does that mean my VOB has a variable frame rate ?
Does that mean I'll have synch problems ?

Also do I have to keep the sound at the same frequency as the source ?
Will changing from 48Khz to 44.1 create synch problems ?

At this point can ffmegx decode/encode from a VOB and create a synch'd movie ? I haven't been able to achieve it.

I hope my questions aren't toooo dumb
    ANy help would be appreciated.

    Search Comp PM
Download MPeg Info and it will tell you what frame rates your source is.

The sound frequency doesn't matter. For VCD or SVCD you should use 44.1

Major is working on the FFMpeg sync issue. Right now it doesn't work.

  3. MPEGInfo says the framerate in the VOB is 29.97

But when I work out framerates vs time it seems my movie should be encoded @ 23.97 ?

Movie cover said 112 minutes, this is what I have:

    MP3 - 111 min 50 secs
    AVI (using ffmpegx MSMPEG4 (Divx 3)@29.97fr) - 89 min 42 secs
If i'm working it out correctly if it was @ 23.97 it would be around
    112 mins ?

here is the log from ffmegx :

Seems that stream 0 comes from film source: 29.97->28.54

Is it me or ffmpegx ?

I just want to make a sync'd movie and get the huuuuge VOB off my little HD

  4. Try with framerate = NTSC FILM

  5. I tried MM2C instead at 23.98 and converted to .mov but it gave me a 25.7 framerate ? with which I couldn't sync the movie
I tried again with MM2D and I finally got it to 23.98.
But the b###### will still not sync w audio
I'm trying to make a VCD backup copy of MonstersBall. (I dunno why ??)

I've played with QTMutator for hours. I cut a second of audio from the beginning of the movie to sync up the start, and if I use QTM to sync the end the rest of the movie still sucks. It seems to drift in and out of sync (mainly out). I've added video to audio and vice versa moved audio back forth adding and cutting frames. I don't know what else to do apart from trash it and forget it

I am soooo fed up, and I know you guys are tired w audio sync probs, but

Is it just the movie or am I doing something wrong ?

Would it make a difference if i save as "self contained" before I use QMT ?
