  4. there is a "new" way to get these now, though i have been using it for a while now. if you use VLC, you can just load the m3u8 link into it, and save the video locally.
to get that m3u8 link, you only need to right-click the page with the video, and click Inspect. then go to the Network tab, and look at the entries in a subtab named XHR. when you first load the page, it should be mostly empty. if not, just clear it. but as soon as you click play, pause it again right away, and the FIRST entry at the top should be the m3u8 file link. it is auto-generated with a hash authorization code which expires, so i cannot just give it to you, but if you just copy that link, then open VLC, and click Media > Convert/Save > Network , then Paste the URL into the field, and click the Convert/Save button at the bottom, it will start playing WITHOUT displaying anything. THIS IS NORMAL! it will play very quickly while it saves the file locally. don't interrupt it or do anything else on your PC. when it is done, you should be able to play the file in VLC to test it
P.S., make sure that when you choose what format to save it in, you choose MP4, and have it copy the video and audio without re-encoding it. This will result in the best quality and fastest download.

  6. Hi guys, any ideas on how to download either the video or entire playlist from here? submeta/courses/introduction
Uses cloudflare - can get the dash-video link, but the file downloaded is encrypted (?) - https://150vod-adaptive.akamaized.net/exp=167....~acl=%2Fdbbb38be-cdfe-45b8-9~hmac=850...dash-video.mp4
Update: Found that it is hosted on Vimeo; one way is to get the link above and download the .mpd which works - any other solutions you guys use?

  9. Hi guys - can anyone help with downloading from Loom? e.g. loom.com/share/0afe10285bc74af2bb2c9b412ffd26a5
Previously you could download the 'manifest.mpd' file and edit 'initialization' and the 'media' attribute to incorporate the full url with query-params, and then download with ffmpeg by feeding that local-manifest.mpd file, but now they've changed the way they do things.

  17. what exactly is "not safe" about it, and how does it "steal information"? iy's available on CNET:

and what do you mean "these apps"? your statements are very sparse, and general. mind sharing what led you to this understanding?

  19. not sure what kinds of issues you are running into installing. i just downloaded and installed the one at the CNET link in less than a minute. it was about 80MB.

perhaps your internet speed is too slow? or if your firewall is blocking it? it's also possible that part of your hard drive is corrupted? have you tried running chkdsk on your C: drive?

This will be something of a late recap. I was always too busy (or lazy) to bother with the likes of RTMPdump or any other full manual / command line tools. My top three download solutions -- although these are not free -- had long been Tubedigger, Allavsoft Downloader, and Videoget. TD has a generous and very cheap license, Allavsoft turns up a couple times per year as a freebie promo from one or another of the sites regularly offering such things (GiveAwayoftheDay, SharewareOnSale, and BitsDuJour), and VideoGet is from Nuclear Coffee. More recently, the latter and maybe the latter two have been knocked off their leading perch here by MediaHumanYouTube Downloader. It covers a lot more than YT, as do the others, and it is super swift. And quite impressive. I like to keep all of these programs available for use. If one of them can't pull in some video or stream you are after, then I'd say you've got a BIG problem.

I'm aware that VLC includes a capability for capturing streams . . . but again, I've glanced at a couple tutorials, considered the learning curve, and once again being busy or lazy wins. Some day perhaps. For now, I'm not missing out on much of anything of interest, just relying on the programs I've mentioned. (And I think they are all updated regularly, to keep pace with various sites' countermeasures.)

looks like they took it down. seems it really WAS "For One Night Only", lol

@Seeker47: if i had the ability/desire to pay for something, i wouldn't be trying to just download it. plus, at least for a lot of us, the thrill is in finding the loophole in the programming; the proper steps to sidestep thru the maze. it is ALWAYS possible, but not always easy. but nothing good is ever easy.

as for the VLC trick, it only works if you can find the m3u8 source. which you can do by hitting F12 (Developer Mode), going to the Network tab, and filtering the list for "m3u8". then just copy and paste that into VLC, using their Convert/Save function, being sure to choose "Copy" for video and audio, rather than re-encoding. this will both make it faster, and better (original source) quality.

anybody who can't do that much probably should buy a program. or learn some video editing skillz

You’d need a vpn to access as it’s an Ireland only site.

    Thanks.

Not a matter of "can't" for me so much as a matter of ease, efficiency, time & effort. There always seem to be more important or more urgent things going on here. That's also the reason why my 'Go To' for video editing continues to be Machete, basic and limited as it is. No learning curve to speak of, but (usually) gets the job done for me. Every time I got bogged down in the extensive timeline and detailed selection controls of the more comprehensive editors, I just thought "can't deal with this right now" and reached for the reliable, familiar simplicity. As far as my hobbyist curiosity goes, that tends to be a can kicked down the road.
