Subtitles when cropping don't work correctly

I converted a DVD to divx with subtitles first without cropping and it turned out great, but when I did it again and cropped out the black bars, it seems as if the movie was cropped and scaled to the original aspect ratio first, the subtitles were then burned in the movie, and finally the movie was scaled to the specified aspect ratio. By this I mean that the subtitles are vertically "compressed", and when I change the cropped movie's aspect ratio to the uncropped movie's aspect ratio, the subtitles look fine, but of course, the video is distorted. Is there something I need to do to fix this or is this a bug (this is in 0.0.7b - I don't know if it's been fixed in 0.0.7c)?
