  1. Hi,

This is definitely driving me crazy!
I simply canīt get any self made vcd (or svcd) to work
and i canīt see the reason.

ėve tried thousands of different methods to encode
an .avi clip to a (s)vcd file.
even the standart template of TMPEG and Nero will not play
on my dvd player even though Nero tells me that it is a standart vcd-file (in properties) an does the burning without any problem.

    When I download
and then burn it with nero as a vcd everything is fine.

What I tried is to simply make a copy of the this working vcd and only replace the .dat file in the MPEGAV folder
    by my self-made vcd-file.

The funny thing is that my dvd-player (mustek v520)
now plays the .mpg movie perfectly fine in file-mode
(I have to manually pick it from the MPEGAV folder).

But when I try to burn this very same file as a standart
vcd, my dvd player doesnīt even recognize the cd
    ("no cd" - message)

The same goes for svcdīs and whichever image-file I tried.
So at least from what I can tell the mpg file itself seems to be ok (just as nero tells me).

Is there anything I forgot - any idea?
Thank you very much in advance!! (since i am close to throwing everything out of my window )

BTW: I am using WinXP and Nero 5.5.5.1

    Bye,
    Terratom

I forgot to mention that the .dat file has to stay in there, too.
Otherwise the .mpg file will not be recognized by the dvd.player.

    Cheers in advance!,

  3. do you Finalize CD (close) before burning? have you tried a slower burn speed? how about different CDR media?

    Hi,

First - thx for your help.

Ok, iīve tried finalizing but that wonīt help.
    Also Iīve tried different cdr(w)īs.
Iīve been testing mainly on cdrwīs.
But the puzzling thing is that like I mentioned
that I donīt have any problem with the already finished
vcd file that I have downloaded.

Whe I try my own file I use the exact same settings and media for burning but without any success.

I just donīt know where I can find the problem anymore.
Maybe it is just a tiny stupid thing - but I just cannot find it.

    Bye,

  5. Terratom,

Hi, please excuse my english but what seems to be your problem? On your post you mention that you download and burn it as a vcd which everything went ok! But you also mention that you wanted to replace a .dat file? What are you trying to do? Can you simpify your goal and your problem? Thanks, Jordan

  6. Hi,

    Thank you for helping!
I think Iīve found the problem.
    Actually, there were two:

First of all I have found out (after literally billions of tries) that the (s)vcd samples that I have made were simply
    too short!

My DVD player just wonīt play any .mpg files that are
shorter than 2 minutes (Ever heard of such a problem?)
(I usually make samples of 1 min length to check the quality before I encode the whole film).

After I had extended the length of the sample to at least
2-3 minutes, the dvd player at least recognized the cd but still refused to play the file.

So I decided to leave Nero alone and switch to VCDImage
and Fireburner to burn the Image onto the Cd and everything works fine now (at least at the moment!).

BTW: I couldnīt get CDRDAO to work under XP with a Ricoh
    7200 - any idea?

Hope I finally solved the problem.
    Again thanx for the help!

    Bye,
    Chris
