i know that most people might have came across this problem b4 but i just need an answer or a way round it.
when i convert .avi files to mpg1 it seems to lose quality, is this normal and is there a way round it?
also what is the difference between .asf files and .avi files please?

Whenever you recode a file you will loose quality. The trick is to loose as litle as possible.

You'd get better results recoding to MPEG2. MPEG1 is constant bitrate, and a low bitrate at that. It's used for authoring VCDs among other things. MPEG2 allows VBR (variable bitrate) which is much more efficient and produces better output for a given amount of disc space. Unless you MUST author a VCD, try MPEG2/SVCD/DVD instead.Originally Posted by akeem
