    Hi guys,

As the subj says, I'm looking. DVapp doesn't work on my Windows 98 pc.
DVIO does. But, its limited to 4gig/18mins.

I heard (after reading) below (snip from a thread) ...

Making vdub recignize DV devices (instructions)
    ----------
That's in nop way true.I'm using VirtualDub for all my DV "captures" without any problem. The only drawback (which is a feature for me):you need a separate Audio card for capturing AUDIo, as VDub can't capture DV Audio. To get VirtualDub working with FW:
    1. remove all other VfW Video capture drivers (i.e if you have any Video-IN device, Vdub doesn't see the FW drivers)
    2. to activate the FW drivers, start DVapp, then AVI-IO and select the FW drivers in AVI-IO
    3. stop AVI-IO, start VDup, go into capture mode and setup Video (compression: use the default compressor/no recompression)
    4. check Audio (use 48Khz/16Bit Stereo)
    5. start capture
    ------------
I added in the subj part

As I was saying.. I did try the above, but to no avail. On my 2nd pc, it won't
work. I've tried using my DV cam to test (in addition to my ADVC) and I
can get the above instruct to work to the point that DVapp will say, "hay,
there's a new device" but that's it. And, it either shuts down, or the DV
buttons to record/play/pause etc go blank.
    .
    .
As far as my ADVC, this app (DVapp) won't see it. But, when I use another
dv app, "RsDvCap.exe" this one works and recignises my ADVC/DV cam
and shows a preview of my video. Unfortunately, it doesn't "segment" and
    only does Type-1 files.

Synalizer - forget it. It's limited to $18 or else it has a logo to it. Not good
for me, and I'm not interested in its features no matter what. I only really
need a cheap app, like vdub (freeware) but can defeat the 4gig limit by the
    use of "segmentation".

So, since vdub "doesn't" actually work w/ DV, I'd like some suggections to
alternatives to other apps that do, but:

    * Under Windows 98 (gold)
    * Segments it's .avi's

Thanks for any help and your understanding,
    -vhelp

You can try WinDV at https://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=285#comments

I havn't had the chance to use it yet but one of it's listed features is "automatic AVI splitting according to the timestamps on DV recordings - every video sequence can be saved into unique file". Which is what you are looking for if I understand you correctly. It also does "capturing from DV device to AVI files (both type-1 and type-2 supported) and recording vice versa". And for the price is can't be beat

    Good Luck.

Would something like NTFS for Win98 work? Here is the user manual:

    http://portland.iu.nl/Manuals/Winternals/NTFSWin98Manual.pdf

I have never used it, but maybe this would be a cost effective way to get around the 4GB limit. If not, you might consider having to upgrade to win2000 or XP.

    Edit, guess they changed it:

Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they?
