I have just started editing and saving my DV camcorder films as MPEG1. However, when I play them back on my Panasonic A120 player they are very blocky. I have also tried the standard settings in Videowave for MPEG 2 but the result is very poor with long horizontal blocking. My machine is pretty powerful with Windows 98 SE, a P3 1 Ghz processor and over 400 MB of RAM. How can I improve the quality of the productions for saving to CDRWs ?

Many said that videowave can't produce good mpeg1 or mpeg2 quality.
Edit the avi and save it using videowave as the original Dv format.
Then use Tmpgenc to encode it to mpeg1 or Svcd.
You should have a better mpeg. -
Sorry for the delay in replying to your message. What video editing software would you recommend instead of Videowave to imrpove the quality of the output ?

Awebbs,
Use VideoWave4 for editing and Producing the movie, BUT when you PRODUCE the final file, sellect the DV format instead of MPEG.
Then run the finished AVI through TMPGenc to create a VCD file.
TMPGenc is free to try and CHEAP to buy. -
I am using also Videowave 4. I make standard VCD´s but quality is quite alright and i don´t see much difference with TPMG although Videowave is much easier. You can increase quality though by increasing bit rate you produce MPEG1 and increase the video data bit rate. The result is extended VCD, which can be played in most DVD player.
