  1. Hi everyone -

Bit of a strange question. I wasn't sure if my question was going to get bumped from one area to another.

I'm well aware that DVD workshop won't allow me to create XVCD (which is REAL shame IMHO). That is what I would like to create. But I did read a post from Craig Tucker that he was creating XVCD-DVD without any hassle.

So - I'm wondering: I would encode my files to fit into the CD-R capacity just as I would normally. Provided I set up my files properly, can I actually author a "XVCD-DVD" but burn it to normal CD-R? Or - would DVD Workshop simply reject the final step since I don't actually have a DVD burner [yet ].

    Thanks!

  2. I've never tried that because I personally don't find any compelling reason to burn XVCDs or XSVCDs.

However, you could try your idea with a CD-RW disc.

I don't believe it will work, however, as the Ulead products are designed to accomodate official disc standards.

  3. Well - my dvd player (Sony DVP-NS700P) won't recognize svcd but will recognize xvcd. I'm hoping to squeeze out better image quality this way and dvd-r won't be an option for the short term so in a way, it's my only option.

You're right though. CD-RW is really the way to find out. I'll try it and see what happens. Can I adjust settings (in DVD authoring) to sort of take into account the settings I would (more or less) set for XVCD via DVDWS (and TMPGEnc)?

    Thanks again
