I have heard of people capturing @ 480x480 and not dropping frames I cant do that without dropping 40 in 3 sec with pretty much any codec beside huffyuv, but I dont want to use that I dont have enough hard drive to capture that much video bandwith. does anyone have any suggestions.

im using virtualdub and i have tried pretty much every codec I can find.
there is pretty much the core of my system Im gonna bump it up from 900 to 1000+ and see if that helps. but if anybody has any suggestions let me know.

It's not your processor, it's more than likely your harddrive or conflicting IRQs on your MB. Is your harddrive a 7200RPM drive ATA100, with DMA set? it needs to be. You can use the simple testing mode that comes with Virtualdub to see if your drive can keep up with the capture. Good Luck!
