  1. OK, I've had enough of trying to make my existing capture card(s) work....so I'm now convinced to try the ADVC-100.

    2 quick questions.

    1) I have a Sony PCV-RX470DS - anyone know of any problems?
    2) Assuming I have a 6-pin 1394 in the back of the PC - Can I hook up to the back of the ADVC-100 and use a 6 pin -> 6 pin cable?

Thanks in advance for any responses. Sorry to waste bandwidth with such basic questions but a lightning strike ruined my previously working setup and I may as well get something better if I'm gonna do this again...

  2. I'll jump in with another question for users of the ADVC-100.
is their a difference in quality using the ADVC-100 to capture from a vcr - vs -capturing using a digital camcorder with digital pass-through.
    thanks.

  3. The ADVC has a 6 pin connection on the back and a 4 pin connection on the front. Either can be used to connect to the PC's firewire port; the ADVC will automatically detect which one is in use.

You can also connect a DV camcorder to the ADVC and have the ADVC connected to the PC so it makes it easy to have the ADVC connected all the time and plug the camcorder in whenever you need it.

As far as quality goes with the ADVC vs a camcorder with digital pass through, I don't see a video quality difference but one of the benefits of the ADVC is the "locked" audio feature which prevents audio sync issues.

The locked audio is one of the ADVC-100's best features. I just bought mine last week and have been capturing about 2-3 hours every other day without a sync problem. IMO, the ADVC is worth its weight in gold :icon14:

  5. The LOCKED AUDIO is a great feature, but dont overlook the MACROVISION defeat function. Just the thing to make DVDs from HTF VHS tapes you may have.

Expensive, yes, but worth every penny.

Here here. I questioned buying one about a year ago after going through 3 or 4 other PCI based capture cards. After I bought it all my doubts were laid to rest. Its a sweet capture device that I have had ZERO problems with. No sync issues and perfect captures every time.

  7. Thank-you for all the feedback!

I think I'm gonna feel good about this purchase (knock on wood)!

(...not that I don't enjoy spending 1-2 hours per night trying to make other stuff work and making absolutely no forward progress)...

    Thanks again.

One more thing - you'll need a semi decent firewire card. Nothing fancy, but I have heard some compatibility issues with certain brands and the advc-100. I was lucky, my Addonics firewire card ($24) handled it without any glitches..
