I'm converting some DivX files. I ripped the audio with VirtualDub and then encoded the files with TMPGEnc like I normally do. The resulting MPEGs were perfect copies. When I go to burn the files as a VCD (wether it be with Nero, VCDEasy, or a image created with VCDEasy and brought over to Nero) the VCD video seems to be cropped. Thse vids have subittiles and they get cut off, moved to the bottom of the screen, etc. It's like it's trying to show the image bigger than my TV is. It's odd. I've never ran into this problem before. Any suggestions?

This is something called "overscan" on your TV. As far as I know, all TVs do it to some extent (except maybe HDTV). It has probably always happened, but you only notice it now because your subtitles are affected. Do a search on here for overscan and I think you'll find some fairly technical explanations. Good luck...

I couldn't find anthing about overscan besides a definition and something about still images. I'm gonna try encoding in diffrent resolution to see if it does anything.
If anyone knows a good way to fix overscan please let me know.

There is no way to "fix" overscan. All conventional TVs do it because manufactures can avoid a lot of technical issues. If you want to watch it on your TV, move the subtitles farther up on the screen. Or you can go to your local Best Buy and test out all the TVs there and see which one doesn't overscan and buy it.

Does your tv automatically decide on the best aspect view ?.
If so can you disable this -
It was a downloaded movie. Is there a way to move the subtitles on a file that already had them?
I have a basic 19" TV, plus I lost the orginal remote. So even if it did have that option I wouldn't be able to access it. As far as my DVD player, I tried changhing what settings I could and got no diffrent results.
When I tried recoding the video with a source aspect ratio of 4:3 525 line (NTSC) versus the 4:3 525 line (NTSC 704x480) I got no difference. -_- -
Using TMPEnc you can add -not crop- black borders around the picture. I think 8 pixels is what some people use. Do a search on borders.

I found this past topic:
https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=129403&highlight=clip+frame
It helped and does solve the problem. Kinda. All I have are the MPEGs and deleted the source files to get more room. From what I can see, VitrualDub will only allow me to save the files as AVIs and when I do qulaity is lost. Is there anything I can do besides download the files again?
--Edit: 2:10pm EST--
After watching the movie again, I think I know the quality problem. Does adding the borders "smush" the video together? Could that be the cause? Is there a setting to prevent this?
