Good evening.
Thanks for the DVDFab 13 link. The full program is too expensive for me. Isn't there a link for DVDFab Blu-ray Ripper?
I ran the trial version of DVDFab 13 on a virtual Windows 11 Pro machine (VirtualBox). My Blu-rays are showing read errors. And that's with a brand new Blu-ray.
I also have VSO ConvertXtoVideo and Blu-ray Converter Ultimate. I'd like to continue using them. But they don't work. I have to rip the Blu-ray first. That's where the problem lies.
Is there still a key available for AnyDVD 8.7.1.1? Or a successor program?
A complete backup using MakeMKV Beta also fails. Do I need a newer version or database? Where can I get both?
Best regards

"Is there still a key available for AnyDVD 8.7.1.1? Or a successor program?"
anydvd will still work with newer 4k discs if you to point it to the keydb.cfg file.
go to settings then uhd and you'll see a box that says "path to external key file".
anydvd no longer works with newer blu ray discs. and it since the company is gone. and the program had to connect to their servers to get the keys to decrypt blu ray. seems there's no way, it will work with newer discs.
are you having problems with certain discs or all disc ? sometimes giving a disc a slight cleaning can help.
also do you have another drive you can rip on ?
i had a blu ray that xreveal, basically tapped out on. that anydvd was able to rip fine. so anydvd might be a better option for problematic discs.
just wish there was way to get it working with newer discs. -
I'm currently trying out another Blu-ray.
All the Blu-rays are clean and have no scratches on the surface.
I only have an external Blu-ray burner connected to my laptop. I've connected it via USB. It can't be the USB port, can it? Should I try a different port?
My AnyDVD HD 8.7.1.1 won't even start because of a missing key. Is there any way I can find a key?
I found this page: http://fvonline-db.bplaced.net/
Should I try creating a new KEYDB.cfg file? But which version? The one for German?
Best regards
Heiko -
your anydvd won't start.
close your program and put your license registration file in the same folder as the program. click on the license registration file and it should activate.
(the program still activates despite the anydvd server being no more)
the next time you try to start anydvd it should open/run.
repeat the keydb stuff will only help anydvd read uhd 4k discs. if your drive isn't capable of reading those type of discs. this file will be of no use to you/won't work in anydvd !
"Should I try creating a new KEYDB.cfg file? But which version? The one for German?"
supposedly it doesn't make a difference which language file you use. but since i live the the states i picked the english one. and i have had no problems.
anyway, yes try different blu rays. try discs that you have ripped before. and see if there are problems now.
try different ports too. try everything.
good luck.Last edited by geek gift; 5th Jan 2026 at 16:32.

DVDFab Passkey LIte will rip regular resolution blu ray.
It is not supposed to rip 4K or UHD blu ray but always worth a try on those any way.
It is free so no reason not to try it.
The Any DVD version you have is by red fox.
I did not purchase it from them.
If you can find your key to activate then what geek gift posted may work for the keydb.
I have the older slysoft Any DVD HD. It can NOT have the keydb added to it.
The license for MakeMKV should install with the new download.
The only catch is you have to install a new version about once a month.
I have also had good results with XReveal. -
Data2006, if you were using a trial/ free to try version of red fox's anydvd and never bought it.
(and you're probably smarter the me. since i bought it, and they shut the company down)
it's now impossible to get a license from them. since the company is no more. and without a license you're going to keep getting, the program closing before you can even use it.
so if you could get a license circa now. it definitely would *not* be from redfox.
and as cholla has mentioned, the original anydvd. (slysoft version) doesn't have the option to add keydb for 4k uhd access.
were you able to rip discs, you've ripped before with xreveal ??
at least we *can try* to make progress on the all discs getting errors/can't rip them front.
with makemkv you shouldn't have to worry about doing a manual install of libaacs/keydb.
i think it takes care of everything when doing the install.

which version of anydvd do you have ? not all of the early versions could rip blu ray.
you may need xp 2 or xp 3 to rip blu ray. don't think the first version of xp, was capable if doing this.
xp hmm... to be safe maybe you should download the toshiba udf drivers. even if anydvd claims to supply udf drivers.
makemkv/xreaveal, just check to see whatever version you have is compatible with your operating system. and i think you should be ok.
you mention using a 64 bit version of xreveal. is your version of win xp 64 bits ?
if possible try to rip a couple more discs.
maybe the drive is fine. and the discs themselves are the problem. read errors can definitely happen.
also try doing a rip, while not doing anything else on the computer. this step might be helpful in an xp set up.

slysoft AnyDVD will not decrypt blu ray.
slysoft AnyDVD HD will rip older blu rays.
XReveal should rip blu rays that are in the keydb it uses.
If you have the latest keydb & it will not rip a blu ray then that blu ray is probably not in the keydb.
MakeMkv revision history states this:
So it should decvrypt those.MakeMKV v1.9.0 ( 17.11.2014 )
Added support for AACS v50
Updated BD+ engine
Improved handling for discs with mastering errors
Small miscellaneous improvements -
I couldn't tell you all the pros and cons of isobuster (which is paid at $60 for lifetime license), but it'll make ISOs out of blu ray discs, at least the 1080p ones. From there, you can feed the ISO into MakeMKV. I happened to have already purchased for testing transferring content off of older internal HDD recorders like those from JVC/Panasonic/Toshiba which is something that I'm not aware any other disc recovery program can do. Isobuster does have a short free trial I think as well, so you could verify it works for your needs first.

Hello.
I have AnyDVD HD 8.7.1.1, which is the version I wanted to use for my current laptop. I just don't have a key.
On my old XP computer, I have version 7.6.9.5.
Now I've tried another Blu-ray with XReveal, which worked before. Then I replaced the KEYDB.cfg file. Now it's suddenly showing me read errors.
Is there a current website where I can get a KEYDB.cfg file?
I'm running XReveal on Windows 11 Pro. The old AnyDVD works on XP; I think it's the Home version and 32-bit.
I think I even have the Pro version of ISOBuster. I'll try the Blu-ray with that.
I also have UltraISO Premium Edition 9.7.1.3519. Can I use that for Blu-rays as well?
Best regards
Heiko -
I read a little more about isobuster just for the heck of it, and it can indeed make an ISO of the disc, but an ISO being a bit for bit copy, it is still encrypted, so if you then give the ISO to makemkv, for some reason it's not able to figure out the decryption.
There is a method described here where you use MakeMKV in backup mode to determine the encryption key first, but I'm not sure if you can make it from the ISO you made with isobuster alone or if you need to still have the physical disc. Seems like make MKV would be able to determine the key from just the ISO alone, but for some reason, it apparently is not the case:
https://forum.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=18074 -
"Then I replaced the KEYDB.cfg file. Now it's suddenly showing me read errors."
and to be obvious now go back to the key file that worked. and see if you can re-rip the same disc that ripped properly.
this might help us see if there is a burner or system error that's play/that's causing the problems.
i think you already know where to het the key files.
but let's post it
http://fvonline-db.bplaced.net
supposedly you can get any key and it's supposed to work. but in case you haven't, try grabbing the english one. that's the one i think most on this forum might use. and there's been no reports of people getting errors while using it.
if i'm getting this right. you're having problems regardless of which program or computer you use ???
if you have more than one hard drive try to rip the disc on the non operating system drive.
curious, could you also tell the brand/model of the burner you're using ? if you don't know that's fine.
do you get errors if you try to rip or burn a cd ? -
You can make an ISO of the blu ray with ISObuster , but then the ISO will also be encrypted. I do think you can mount the ISO and play it as normal, but I'd have to try that myself. I think where ISObuster could be useful is allowing as many read attempts as are necessary (or write either random data or zeros when it can't read a spot) if it hits a bad spot in the disc whereas make MKV might give up after a certain number of attempts. Not sure if it works with 4K blu rays.
What's your overall end goal of ripping the blu rays to begin with? If you want to just have a backup or burn a copy, the "still encrypted" ISOs would likely work for that. Would just test one ISO created by it does everything you want it to before spending a lot of time backing up your whole collection.
If you want to make actual video file (without menu systems etc) that streaming players can read, MakeMKV is probably the way to go (no ISO buster needed). MakeMKV can also preserve the menu system but will just output a folder of files which you can then re-compile into an ISO later (unencrypted) that some players might still understand or that you could possibly then re-burn as a physical backup copy.
I've only ever really backed up one blu ray, so I'm definitely not the one with the most expertise, but a big part is just knowing what the purpose of the ripped files are to know which method is best I think. -
I want to extract only the concert footage from a Blu-ray disc so I can play it on my satellite receiver. I don't have a Blu-ray player yet.
I also have a Stephen King Blu-ray disc with two movies, and I only want to extract the video from that as well.
I'm having trouble with MakeMKV. It just gives me errors.
I also tried using a passkey, but that didn't work either.
How do I proceed with IsoBuster to obtain an ISO file? The program gives me two different menu options for creating an ISO.
Best regards
Heiko -
Looks like the method per the post made earlier would be:
1. Use ISOBuster to 'Extract' the contents of the damaged disk to a folder
2. Open MakeMKV and choose to 'Backup' the disk to a different folder. Once the file "discatt.dat" is created stop the backup
3. Copy the file "discatt.dat" to the BDMV folder of the extracted contents
4. Open MakeMKV and click "File > Open File". Open the "discatt.dat" file in the BDMV folder. -
Okay. But what's the next step?
I read something about AnyMP4 Blu-ray Ripper. Is it any good? Unfortunately, it costs €55.96. Not exactly cheap.
Best regards
Heiko -
I bought many years ago Video Converter Ultimate. It ripped my Game of Thrones Blu Ray box set.
It was quite cheap at the time.
I will try and see if it is still available for purchase today. -
It is now called
http://www.multipelife.com/
http://www.multipelife.com/video-converter-ultimate
It is not cheap $65 but there is a free trial whatever that means.
You can look for working discount coupons or contact them and ask for a discount. You might get lucky. -
Pavtube Video Converter Ultimate sounds good.
But what about the trial version? What are its limitations?
I can't buy the program through your link. I'll have to look elsewhere.
Best regards
Heiko -
Can I use this program to rip entire DVDs and Blu-rays to ISO files? Or does it just produce a converted video file?
I would then like to further process the ISO file with VSO Blu-ray Converter or other programs. -
Pavtube Video Converter Ultimate is old but it did work fine to rip my collection.
I have no idea about the trial limitations as I have a paid program.
Why don't you just try it it and see.
Did you try MakeMKV?
How many Blu Ray Discs do you need to rip?
If it is just one disc then maybe it is cheaper to buy a new one.
