If you just want to BackUp the DVDs try Xreveal to decrypt the DVD on the fly and ImgBurn to Read them to ISO on your PC.

    MakeMKV.

To create an ISO, a direct copy of the whole disk: open MakeMKV-Click Backup icon (or File>Backup…).

To extract the main movie only (similar to DVDShrink):

Use the Open Disc mode to analyse the video files on the disk and choose which ones you want to save to MKV.
    -Insert your DVD
    -File>Open Disc…
-Deselect all the titles you don’t want converted ie blue-tick only the movie you want to keep.
    -Set the Output folder.
    -Click MakeMKV
MakeMKV will extract your selected movies into MKV files.

    hi
i want to shrink to burn on a dvd5 (4.7GB) , makeMKV doesn't do , i guess it can rip blue ray and dvd removing protection to create a personal copy
dvdshrink could compress the movie just to fit on dvd single layer
    thanks

    hi
Xreveal doesn't shrink any video to store on a 4.7 gb
but is free or not by the way?
    thanks

  7. MakeMKV or XReveal will rip an .ISO which will be the full size DVD.
XReveal can also rip to DVD compliant folders still full size.
You have to use one of these to decrypt a commercial DVD.
You need to read the setup instructions for both.
As they require some additional files to work.
Once you get it ripped to your hard drive full size you need to compress it to DVD5 size.

I do not know if DVD Rebuilder works with Windows 11 but give it a try.
It can compress to DVD5 size.

Like many softwares XReveal has a free & paid version.

I thought of another software AVStoDVD can also compress to DVD5.
It also has to have the DVD decrypted first.

@manono, AFAIK, IMGBurn will not shrink a DVD-9 to fit on a DVD-5. It is simply a burner.

  9. Alwyn is correct.
I'm 100% sure ImgBurn does not compress DVD files.
    Or any other type file.

I would say it is more than a simple burner because of other things it can do.

@rama I am running Windows 11 Pro. I installed DVDShrink 3.2 and ran a test using Xreveal (paid/registered version) and DVDShrink. My test DVD was a rather old series of The Outer Limits 1995 (YMMV with newer DVDs and the free verssion of Xreveal). With Xreveal running, DVDShrink recognized the DVD as "Not Encrypted" and successfully shrank it from DVD9 to DVD5 without any errors and created an ISO for me.

just because i can find any information about the pro version
    thanks

That's right. But here's what he asked:
what can i use to rip (remove protections) and burn my original dvd on a new one?
He is already using DVD Decrypter to decrypt the files to the hard drive. He can use ImgBurn to burn to DVD. Those are the answers to his two questions.
As for shrinking to DVD-5 size, several good options were already suggested. Me, I'd use an AviSynth script opened in HC Encoder. Failing that, I'd suggest Avs2DVD, which also uses an AviSynth script, QuEnc for the encoding and ImgBurn at the end. Here's Baldrick's guide for the job:

@manono, post #5 and #6 clearly indicate they want to shrink. Hence my comment to you.

Yes, you're right. He also says he used to use DVDShrink, while I think it's a piece of junk suitable only for those that don't know anything and don't want to learn anything.

If he wants to do it the easiest way and get good results at the same time, the I'd still recommend Avs2DVD.

  15. @ manono,
I saw Baldrick used Quenc in his guide but acording to MrC the author it is no longer used & the quote is from 2013.

I would like a short guide on doing this.
I have done some additional reading on doing this but any imput would be appreciated.

DVD Decrypter may or may not decrypt a commercial DVD depending on how modern the encryption on the DVD is.
Although I would also use ImgBurn DVD Decrypter can also Write to a DVD.

DVD Rebuilder even the free version allows more settings in HCEnc than AVStoDVD.
You need to modify both the rebuilder.ini & HC.ini in the Program Files folder for DVD Rebuilder.
I have been told this is made easier in the paid verson but I do not have it.

I like DVDShrink but I have other paid software I also use.
I've found if DVDShrink rejects a DVD when used with a decrypter.
It is a good indication there is a problem with that DVD.

    Dvdshrink works fine on Windows11.
For the iso file, mount it first (doubleclick it, a new drive letter will be assigned to it).
In Dvdshrink, open file, locate the main ifo in the new drive letter.

I've never used it, and am only familiar with its ease of use and the fact it's supposed to be useful for the inexperienced. The encoder name I got from the guide. If it's no longer used, then fine.

There's nothing difficult about using HCEnc. Make a DVD compliant script, open it in HCEnc, set a few parameters and let it do its thing. Afterwards (if NTSC) run it through DGPulldown to set the pulldown. Then author it with whatever you might use (Muxman, if you don't need menus). Here's a decent guide:
    https://forum.videohelp.com/threads/273620-How-to-encode-an-Avi-to-dvd-ready-video-and...-Aften#1734488
About the only part I find useful is the bottom HcEnc screen. Test the script first in VDub to make sure it works and is complaint (framerate, resolution)
