anyone got any updates on new players that work BDXL.
surely this problem can be solved somehow. -
Looks like this forum is now finished. Haven't heard from Rick and think that there is now way to make perfect copies of 4k with BDXL until a player comes out that will play everything and I am not holding my breath for it. bye

Hi there,
I already have a Sony player reading correctly first two layers, wich is fine for me as most of the films I'm interested in are two layer discs. The problem comes with two particular films I'm interested in, but covering all three layers. I then use DVDFab to convert the contents to a two layer disc, and then I burn it using IMGBURN. My Sony player plays them fine, but when entering the proper film, there is no image, just sound. It happens with both films. What am I doing wrong? It's getting very frustrating as discs are very expensive to be wasting them.
Best regards! -
I have over 60 terabytes of movie data (the entire deleted catalog) burned to 100GB and 128GB BDXL discs. I have found that the best way to play these movies on my TV is by plugging in an external blu-ray drive (I am using Pioneer BDR-XS07 drive) to a Nvidia Shield TV Pro using a Y-cable (needs both USB ports to properly power the external drive) and hooking the Shield TV Pro to my TV via HDMI.
To access the content of the discs, you will need an application called 'MLUSB Mounter' as well as the 'UDF/ISO Mount' extension (costs like $2.50) for it. There are many media players for Android that you can use, but I personally use MX Player/MX Player Pro, and VLC.
Technically this method should work with any modern Android box with USB-A ports but I can personally vouch for the Nvidia Shield TV Pro. I also have a Samsung tablet with MLUSB installed that I use to read files on burned discs and playback my 35,000+ movie collection.Last edited by Baldrick; 13th Dec 2021 at 13:23. So after months and months and countless hours trying to get this to work I can say only the sony will take 60gb disc only. this myth about a burn process with an external usb drive and it will play on any machine is an urban legend false doesn't work. I would say we will never see a 4k player that will play any type of burnt BDXL disc.
I have given up moved on. have blank disc and an external usb case with burner for sale pm me if interested. -
Understandable, I got the right burner, enclosure, spent a lot of money on discs and got the Panasonic player. All in an attempt to burn a 52gb 4k file so it would play as a disc. I tried it all as well but every burned disc either didn't play at all or if it did, stuttered like crazy.
I gave up months ago. Bought a small external ssd and the files play flawlessly via the Panasonic's USB port. It's not the same but much less hassle. -
The disc era is gone, I myself burned a lot of BD-R and BD-R DL back in the day from HD Blu-ray titles just to find myself backing them up back to HDD, Now I got tons of 1:1 copies on BD-R's and BD-R DL's and have no use for them, They will eventually get dumped in the trash one day when I decide to let go off of them.

For what it's worth, although the Blu-ray Disc Association released the initial spec for UHD Blu-ray on pressed discs in 2015, it has not yet amended the UHD Blu-ray spec to cover UHD Blu-ray on burned media.

Which is why I mentioned it back in post #326 months ago.

Hello Kadu7475б
I can't provide you with instructions for burning BDXL (I burn them via ImgBurn), but what I can tell you for sure is that both 3-layer and 4-layer BDXL discs can be read (and this is stated in its data sheet and instructions for use) Panasonic DP-UB 9000 (Limited Edition Japan) https://panasonic.jp/bdplayer/products/ub9000.html
Before purchasing this player, I had a Panasonic DP-UB 900, I bought it in the UK. This player read all without exception recorded by me BDXL on three layers. I have not tried to play four-layer discs on it.
This is what I can say from my own experience. -
Curious why the 4k UHD disc iso write to bdxl doesn't work on 4k player? Is that due to the 4k UHD disc format different to BDXL, or the encryption?
-
If the contents of the ISO are still encrypted, that would prevent playback. Some decryption keys are stored in a location on the original disc that can be read by Blu-ray drives but, by design, Blu-ray burners can't write to that location on writable media.
Otherwise, the explanation is here: https://forum.videohelp.com/threads/388243-BluRay-Player-with-BDXL-Support/page11#post2634730Ignore list: hello_hello, tried, TechLord, Snoopy329 -
I would *love* a BDXL player. I know everyone uses external hard drives now, but those can fail, where if an optical disc is stored properly, it will be fine extremely long term as it's non mechanical!
So I'm looking at the Panasonic DP-UB9000, but I understand while some say this will work on three layer BDXL, others say it may work sometimes, and other times not.
Playing back a burned copy would also need Cinavia detection disabled, and I have 4K discs from other countries, so I would need it to be region free as well. The only site I could find offers anything like this for the DP-UB9000 via custom firmware: RegionFreedom.com. Anyone have any experience with this? To get the firmware they ask for a "monetary contribution" and it's completely blank as to how much you should "contribute". This is actually looking scary to me because it looks and feels very much like the old "soup nazi" site firmwareinfo.com. The person that ran that was crazy and treated anyone wanting a custom firmware like garbage. For example you had to jump through a million hoops and if you did the slightest thing wrong he would ban you from the site. If you asked for firmware for more than one player it would be an instant ban; he didn't seem to care in the slightest about making any money. So I think it's probably a no go!
Anyways, it would be really nice to have a BDXL / UltraHD solution... I think we were spoiled since BD-ROM and BD-R/BD-R DL just worked on any player (until Cinavia anyways).
Has anyone tried to connect a BDXL drive via USB to an M9205? If the drive appears to the M9205 as an external drive with a UHD folder structure, what's the difference between that and an external HD with a UHD folder structure? It should work, no?Last edited by Corvius; 18th Jul 2022 at 05:21.

This is interesting, but, I suspect "Burner connected to USB 2.0 Port" means a port on a computer, and he's sharing the drive or folder, and playing the content over the network. I've heard this method works on a number of different players.
But I think we're really looking for single box solution. -
I'm using DP-UB9000 with regionfreedom firmware. It works great, the minimal donation is 40€, yet this team is not really responsive if you want to speak to them about anything. All you can do is get this region free firmware for 40€, and you need to be quick sending money as otherwise, they cancel transaction.
Firmware works great concerning multi-region support, but concerning BDXL nothing is improved. In my testing, burned 4K UHD works only on 25 GB disc, so it's not that usable.
The player recognizes also DL (50GB) discs but plays them too slow (I assume it uses fixed x1 reading speed, which is fine for regular blu-rays), and occasionally image stutters. BDXL (100GB) discs are not recognized at all.
I've tried to contact regionfreedom about that, even offering an extra donation, to possibly look into that issue, yet I received no response.
