  1. Hello all,

Thanks for making such a great website.

At Videohelp.com, all the different software for video
    is listed, and reviewed.

And there are great forums, with good people
give good answers. (This is differentiated
from the offensive trolls, snobs, etc. )

Lately, I've also been struggling with
image manipulation. ie. JPG files, etc.

Does anyone know of an equivalent or similar website for images?

So much of what I've found so far is program specific.

If so, please send the links.

    Thanks a lot!

  3. Thanks for responding.

But I don't think you understood.

    VideoHelp covers dozens of software
    https://www.videohelp.com/software
    Good Reviews
    Help via the Forum

But Imagemagick is but one software
Of dozens or hundreds out there.

What is a good website for images,
    similar to VideoHelp,
that covers the most used or popular
    software for imaging?

    Thanks a lot!

Although, those forums are mostly about digital photography
With lots of categories on different camera brands.

What I really need help with is with the
    software that manipulates digital images.

Photoshop is probably the most well known.
And of course, there are forums for Photoshop, and
forums for this or that other software.

But is there a website, that like VideoHelp,
lists and reviews all the different software for
    digital image manipulation?

Recently, to do something pretty simple, I
tried maybe 10 different software products, and
every one of them failed in one way or another.

    Thanks again

Decades ago, like you I tried different software and found them lacking in some way. I finally bit the bullet and got Photoshop and have never looked back since. I realized that Photoshop with filters could do 99% of anything that I could ever want and I'd still just be chipping away at the tip of the iceberg of capabilities it has.

The fact is that while there are a lot of reviews and instructions for various video software, there's only a handful that are recommended that like Photoshop will do the majority of anything you'd likely need. Avid is to video what Photoshop is, then there's Premiere and Aftereffects for the prosumers and for the home users there's Vegas. Avisynth scripting is a powerful tool to craft things to your needs.

Just as with Photoshop, if you spend the money and time to get and learn the best, you don't have to worry about the rest.

  10. I already tried Gimp, and that failed my multiple requirements too.

So I won't be taking on the expense and learning curve of Photoshop

    Just to do something simple.

Does anyone know a good website?

    Thanks

If you're not willing to pay for Photoshop, you'll have to use multiple programs to do the multiple things you want and they'll likely be harder and take longer than if you used Photoshop. And support for those programs will be a fraction of what you'd get with Photoshop which you've stated has forums dedicated to it. Even if you find a program that works similar to Photoshop (and despite people stating Gimp is an alternative, it's not even close), you'll find yourself stuck when you have to do something manually that a Photoshop specific filter could do automatically.

There's a current thread about WinX DVD Ripper which has zero replies and when it does get a reply, it will probably be either "I don't know or don't use that program" or "Use DVDFab". As I stated before, just because this forum reviews and offers limited help for multiple programs, there are just a handful that are recommended and given good supporting answers.

Alternatives for GIMP include Paint.Net which is also free.

I just checked and Photoshop Elements is still available for $100. Not cheap, but far better than anything else you'll find for less.
