I don't have any plugins folder on the laptop, only on the i: flash drive. I'm not sure how (or if) it found the UT codecs (the three files) since it was not in the archive i created and I never installed them on the Acer Inspire laptop. So that has me puzzled why it work for those videos: i opened through avisource() and lsmash successfully. And, I have never created a search path. I don't even know how to do that.

Having that small dialog box pop up after closing is actually helpful, especially during debugging why something isn't working. I prefer not to fiddle with switches if possible. But you could always do what I do when I develop, which is make a timer event that it pops up for 1 or two seconds. Well, you can make an additional /switch feature. Just a suggestion.

    Oh, that explains it. thanks.

Update.. yes, ffms2 does work. I must have had a finicky video that did not want to open. Anyway. It can open an hevc encoded video successfully. I'm loving this. Thank you !

I can't wait to try this at work today on my i7-6700 pc. now I can finally test that and my new acer inspire laptop's i3-7100U Skylake vs Kabylake hevc encodes.

yea, no problem. I just tried it on my work pc at work, and its a success.

Now all I need to do is remove the frustrations I have with my encoding processes. Juggling scripts, ivtc, previews, parameters, console app, and so on, can get laborious. I'm attempting to put most of the tedious processes/steps in one gui, the scripts, ini files, etc., and incorporate a "preview" for the console app i'm using. I got this idea (but don't want to give that part away just yet) on how to do it, I just need to pull the necessary pieces together to make it work.

[OT]Ultimately, (in another project) using an old capture app that I made for my hdpvr, I want to capture with it, but using Intel's Quicksync encoder and somehow link an avisynth script with the ivtc plugin, (this one, TIVTC.dll) in real-time. I think it can be done. There will be a huge pause because QS has to think (cache and process a load of frames) a bit before finally showing some console data. I want to create an app like that, too. It could act as a pvr or something. That's why I've invested a lot in this project and the equipment, and my struggling along the way in getting there. But i'm sure someone else will beat me to it, as usual. But I just wanted to mention the idea. Anyway. I'm just thinking out loud here.[/OT]

I see that ffms2 has hevc codec support. It opens them fine on my i7-6700 work computer, but the lsmash does not have hevc code support. The portable process will not open any hevc encoded clips (as encased in mkv). However, when I bring the same flash drive over to my Acer Aspire laptop w/ win10 home 64bit, it will open the hevc video via lsmash.

I wonder if my Acer Aspire E15 has software or hardware hevc support. Is there a way to get a list of installed codecs on any computer? I thought there was an app that did this, I seem to recall an app floating around that lets you change the order of present leveled codecs. I forget the name of that tool. Its on my xp home computer at home. Anyone know of a way to get a list of installed codecs and which are software and hardware on a computer?

    Wrong.

Why? L-Smash Works doesn't care for any system codecs. They are all integrated (at least with the static binary, dynamic binary will use the ffmpeg dlls but they should be included in the package)
