Why would you want to do that? You need the camcorder audio track to sync the Zoom audio.
I think you need to experience the difficulty of separate audio editing before you dismiss camcorder audio. Manually synchronizing audio for lip sync is very difficult. Just try it. You won't like it.
In most cases the unsynched external audio recorder will run at a slightly different speed vs the camcorder. This makes editing for lip sync very difficult. Pro Audio recorders have a time code track and sync to the camera or a central time code source..

This was covered in a previous thread. I recall that the SD800 also lacks an external mic jack and audio level controls, both are needed to achieve quality audio results.

 Found the thread here
 https://forum.videohelp.com/threads/338074-HD-cam-under-800?

The SD800 was found to lack

 -internal memory (no big deal)

-external mic input (a big deal)

-smaller LCD monitor (important for touch screen menus)

-lack of focus ring (I think manual focus is important)

 -no 5.1 mic, just stereo

I've never heard of a HDC-SD900. You need to read the fine print in the specs to find the real spec differences.Last edited by edDV; 16th Oct 2011 at 13:25. Recommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.

	Just got the following Tripod

 Slik PRO 400 DX

 SD900 is different than SD800

I saw the External Mic input and the Headphone jack in the above Youtube video.

Read about the mic input here:
 http://www.panasonic.co.nz/at-home/cameras/movie-cameras/high-definition-moviecameras/hdc-sd900.html

 Mic Input
There's a mic input terminal and a headphone jack on the side of the camcorder. Plug in an external mic or headphones (both optional) if desired.
Regarding the Manual Focus, read the comment here
 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CD_3peCqY78

 It does have Manual Focus

Or check the same link as above:
 http://www.panasonic.co.nz/at-home/cameras/movie-cameras/high-definition-moviecameras/hdc-sd900.html

 Manual Control Ring
The manual control ring gives you easy, fingertip control over the focus, zoom and exposure settings. You'll find using the ring a much more intuitive, comfortable, user-friendly process than accessing a menu screen. With the manual ring and manual operation, the HDC-SD900 is a pleasure to use and gives you the freedom to craft unusually expressive images.
Regarding 5.1, it does support it

 Check the specs here:
 http://www.panasonic.co.nz/at-home/cameras/movie-cameras/high-definition-moviecameras/hdc-sd900.html
Microphone 5.1ch Surround, Zoom and Focus Microphone
If you check the main site comparison here:
 http://panasonic.net/avc/camcorder/hd/900_800_series/specifications.html

Most of the specs are the same with a few exceptions.Last edited by AjnabiZ; 16th Oct 2011 at 17:00.

I'm neutral if that is the only feature difference. I'm concerned that something else is deleted.

 On second thought,
One advantage of internal memory is you can move clips off and onto flash cards in the field without a computer. This file sorting can be useful for organizing free space and backing up.Last edited by edDV; 18th Oct 2011 at 18:28. Recommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.

Guys, i need to know how do the production managers schedule the recordings.

I need a way to manage all the recording, how many days in a week, how long would each recording last, etc....

is it somewhat like a storyboard ?
