Newbie Questions: Copying Vcds and More

hello,

I'm new here and just started playing with VCDs. A few Questions..

Can you copy VCDs onto your computer, then copy on a disk and have another VCD?

Is there a Simple(drag and Drop) way of converting Avi. files to meg or VCD?

You can copy Disk to Disk without having to do any work, Source and destination can be the same if you only have one drive. You will be prompted for a blank disk.

You can also copy the .dat file from the CD, but in doing so, you can loose any menu's the disk may have.

A simple drag and drop, you can do this is Nero, but converting AVI's to mpeg1 is not its best feature you can simply load the AVI into TMPGEnc select a VCD template and click start, what simpler than that ?

If you have downloaded the AVI, it needs to be checked for bad frames, bad audio with programs like Vdub, Before you can convert it with TMPGEnc

How long does it take to encode? It seems like it is playing in real time...

Takes 4-10 hours, depending on your computer speed and a whole bunch of other factors.

I don't see any problems, I've had a 2 hour movie encode in 3 hours, which I thought was impressive. (Use CacheMan)

In Vdub 1.40 you can select Video >Scan Video stream for errors
When (if) it finishes and lists the errors, you only need to save out another copy using streaming.

Video > Direct stream copy
Audio > Direct stream copy
SAVE AVI

This will save out another copy without the bad frames. However there is currently a known problem with this Vdub, so if it stops and does not finish the scan, you need to use "Old faithful"

Download "vdub-mp3-freeze.exe" and do the same scan. This time it makes a log of the bad frames at c:\badframes.log

You can use that log to delete the bad frames (At key frames) starting with the highest blocks first.

You need to edit your profile and add your system details, the CPU you have will make a huge difference to the conversion times.
No point in telling you my conversion times, as my machine may be completely different, even if you had the same CPU

2 hour movie about 1.5 hours
