Every time I try to encode a file - any kind of file, into any kind of format, the encode takes about 1 second, says it's done, and the encode file is 0kb. I tried deleting and reinstalling the program, but it's still doing the same thing. Any ideas what's wrong?

	mencoder gets into an error with a "Floating point exception", trying to calculate something impossible using a floating point variable, then crashing.

 Unfortunately, I have no idea how to troubleshoot this error with mencoder. If I would encounter a "Floating point exception" error, then I would try another preset, in the hope that this impossible calculation isn't made with a different preset.

	Of course.

	The first video I tried to convert after Installation worked great. But now everything I try, I see the same results as described in this thread. the error that I see in the log is...

 ERROR: Could not open movie: /Users/banister_murray/Desktop/A_Colbert_Christmas__The_Greatest_Gift_of_All.vob

 I see the "Could not open movie" error for every thing I've tried now. I can open the movies with VLC, so I'm confused.

-
	VLC will play almost anything, even faulty files, which makes it unsuitable for testing the validity of a file.
 Does this happen on other files files besides just this VOB file? Other VOB files? Other types of files?
 Does this happen with mencoder presets as well as ffmpeg presets?
 Can you play the file(s) with other player software besides VLC? E.g. MPlayer.

	This is the log report I got today when this error occured:

-
	Try setting the "Invert mapping" checkbox in the Audio tab. That should prevent this error for files that have audio as stream #0.0 and video as stream #0.1.

 WMV support is limited in the ffmpeg version that is included in ffmpegX 0.0.9y. So there is still a chance that you encounter an "unsupported codec" error for some WMV files.

-
	I haven't tried this personally, but I understand that iSquint converts WMV:

 http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/19769/isquint

 If you pay for Flip4Mac, you can export to WMV from MPEG Streamclip and NOT get the watermark. The unpaid version exports from Streamclip with the watermark.

	Although this thread is from a long time ago, maybe someone can help me out. I am trying to convert a .TS file to e.g. a .MOV file using ffmegx. As described earlier in this thread, ffmpegx terminates in a second and does not convert anything.

 The log says:

 As suggested earlier I checked "invert mapping" in the audio tab, but that didn't help. It gave the same problem, except the last line of the log said
 Codec type mismatch for mapping #0.0 -> #0.1

 Does someone have suggestions ?

-
	You would want ffmpegX to get to the following stream mapping
 #0.1 --> #0.0 (video to video)
 #0.3 --> #0.1 (audio to audio)
 I think for this file it would work if you set ffmpegX to "Invert mapping" AND set set the Audio track to "2" (or "1" or "3", but not "0", and most likely "2"). That latter is to prevent confusion over subtitle streams as possible audio streams. The new log should list a stream mapping that hopefully resembles
 #0.1 --> #0.0
 #0.3 --> #0.1

 If that doesn't work, then there are alternatives, but try this first.

-
	Unfortunately this doesn't work either. I do get other messages though.The log now looks like this (similar for audio track 1 and 2)

	Well, that part worked.

 ffmpegX doesn't seems to like this HD H.264 video stream very much. Perhaps you can try to just copy the video stream as-is, by selecting Passthrough as Video Codec in the Video tab (along with the settings from before)?Originally Posted by Dinky2

	I used to be able to encode with most any setting. I recently updated my macbook pro (system software updates), and had to reinstall ffmpegx for some reason. Now, when I try to encode I get errors with almost every setting.

	Like the error says, for this conversion the target (output) frame size must be a multiple of 2, i.e. width and height must be even numbers, even if the source file is not. (Some conversions are even more restrictive: multiples of 4/8/16.) You may change the output size in the Video tab.

 The second conversion looks like a deliberate framerate reduction. It shouldn't be "way too choppy", but enough to notice. One in five frames gets dropped. You may match the source file framerate by choosing 29.97 fps in the Video tab.
