I'm going to be installing a new hard drive on monday and was wondering what is the best setup for two hard drives. One is a 30GB 7200RPM HD (which houses the the OS etc) and the other is going to be a 120GB 7200RPM (used exclusively for capping.) Should I put both on the same IDE channel or have one as master on one channel and the other as master on the other? What is the best setup for capturing?

    Thanks!

The best would be 30Gb as master and the 120Gb as slave on first IDE channel. then on IDE 2 you want your CD-RW and/or DVD-Rom.

This the way I hav mine setup as. My2nd HD is for Video only. Wheather
    capturing or ripping.
May the force be with you.

  3. The best would be if you put the 30gb disc on the primary master and the new 120gb on the secondary master, and not place cd/dvd-units on the primary slave or the secondary slave. This gives you the best speed.

But since i doubt you dont have cdrom or similair, you might considre buying a RAID-card for the CD/DVD units. this card will only have to support UDMA33 since CDROM- units uses max 8mb/sek

If you have IDE DVD and Burner and no RAID you are best to put two Hard drives in one channel.

If you are using Windows 2000 (or WinXP ?) you can create a striped volume, emulating a RAID setup whilst just using standard IDE controllers.

This configuration allows you to use the "bandwidth" of both your hard drives whilst capturing. 8)
