  1. I don't know much about AIW cards. When they work they seem to work well. But they seem to be plagued with driver issues.

Personally, I prefer to have my graphics card and my capture card as separate devices. My main capture card is a Hauppauge PVR-250 (PCI hardware MPEG). The AverTV card was really cheap ($10?) so I picked it up just for experimenting. I also have a DV camcorder that I can use.

Just a quick note to let you know I purchased an ATI All in Wonder with S-video and all is now working fine. Seems like it was all down to the tv tuner.

Thanks for all the advice - got there in the end

One last query which I could would apprectiate confirmation for.

Say if I capture full screen uncompressed/or with huffy. I would like to create my video made up of around 15 x 3 minute sections so each section is saved as it's own file, then once all is ready, place each section onto 1 timeline and create 1 big file rather that having a large edit (I'm not sure of what order the sections will be, hence this method). For each section I'd like to create a DV type 1 file, import this back into the timeline when joining all sections, then create another DV type 1 file. Would the quality be minimal? or what would be the best option? I read on the Ulead forum that no loss would be noticeable upto 4+ generations (for viewing on TVs) but would like to make sure.

  3. With DV AVI, as long as you only perform simple cut/paste type operations, there should be no loss at all. With that type of editing there is no decoding and reencoding of the frames. It's when you do things that change the individual frames (color changes, cropping, etc) that quality will start to degrade.

They'll be a couple of normal crossfades here and there along with simple text graphic on the bottom left of the screen throughout.

As long as it's hardly noticeable I'll go with importing via Huffy, create the edit to DV AVI then piece them altogether and create another DVD AVI.

    Thanks again.
