New Intel Core 2 Duo Knocks Out Athlon 64 in Video Encoding

Two weeks from now, Intel will release its all-new Core 2 Duo processor. The technical details were made available to the public in March 2006, and first benchmarks made clear that Intel is not joking: Core 2 Duo shall become the undisputed leader in performance and performance per Watt.

The Core 2 Duo extreme edition is out in limited quantities on some online retailers but some people have upped the price by $200.00. myself i will get the E6600 and overlock it a tad bit. AMD is going to drop their prices on some cpu by as much as 50%

AMD is rolling out dual dual core CPUs (as opoosed to quad core), which may even things up somewhat.

It is not about when you become the leader, it is about how long you can maintain that lead and whether or not you are working on something that will bring you out from behind when you are no longer the leader.

Where's the current XviD bench? 1.1 wasn't multithreaded so it makes little sense to me to use it for a SMP benchmark.

Still AMD have K8L and 4x4 to come. So we'll see how long Intel are on top.

Isn't 1.1 the current "stable binary"? In any case, all the other multithreaded encoder benchmarks show the Core 2 Duo beating the crap out of the AMD chips. It's doubtful Xvid would be any different.

Overpriced??? The 250.00 Core Duo 2 runs side by side with the 900.00+ top of the line Athlon FX. :P
