For those of you who were involved with my last thread (concerning the Auxillary BNC connectors on a professional video breakout box)...you may be interested to know that my DC1000 to DC2000 conversion project was a success!!

I managed to convert a Media 100 breakout box into a DC2000 breakout box -- which in turn automatically "upgraded" my cheapo DC1000 video capture card to a professional grade DC2000 video capture card.

A little history:

After purchasing two Pinnacle DC2000 boards a few years back (at nearly $2500 each), I discovered that the much cheaper DC1000 board (around $900 at the time) was the exact same capture card, just with a different breakout box. The software drivers "detected" the type of breakout box attached and modified the input/output options accordingly.

Now, the breakout box for the DC1000 board is only capable of capturing composite and s-video whereas the DC2000 breakout box in addition is capable of capturing component video and XLR balanced audio.

Anyway, I managed to buy a DC1000 on E-bay for $100, and a Media 100 breakout box for around $20. Adding the cost of a few components and connectors (another $20) -- and the time to solder a 62-pin connector, and I've put together a $140 professional-grade capture system capable of real-time MPEG encoding (and MPEG editing) with component ins/outs, and balanced audio.

And to think that Pinnacle wanted to charge me $800 to replace a stolen breakout box.

SUCCESS!!
