I am curious about how repeatable the Epson R200/ R300 printers are from one disc to another when printing to the edge of the printable surface. I had a caddy based printer produced by SuperImage a couple of years ago. It was very frustrating to use when printing discs to the edge of the printable surface. One disc would have a white sliver on the left and the next would have a sliver on the right. The mechanical control that the printer had on the caddy position just wasn't that good. There must have been a 1 to 2 mm. variation from one disc to the next. That might not sound like much but when attempting to print to the edge of the printable surface, it's enough to drive you crazy. Are the R200/R300 printers any better in this respect?

I have the R800, which is a more expensive version of the R200. It is extremely accurate, easily within +/- 0.1mm when printing discs. That is the resolution of the disc centering window in the cd printing software that comes with it. I've printed over 70 discs so far and haven't needed to readjust it.

Now, this may not apply to the R200/R300 since the R800 has some kind of optical pickup on the print head that allows it to perform a print head alignment automatically. This could allow the printer to "see" the edges of the disc.

My R300 started out with a tiny edge on one side not completely printed (not that noticable). And as I used the printer, it centered itself, and settled in to perfection.

So nothing to woorry about concerning centering of disc print, it is other issues that may drive you away from Epson's disc printers.

Regular printers have a minor degree of error due to the physical "roller moves paper through and under print head" issue. The printer logic can only overcome this to a certain degree.

However, these "disc sits in neat little cutout" models are VERY accurate. Once they're aligned... they tend to be very very good.
