Reading among all the topics about ATI AIW makes me more confused... and makees me think it's maybe easier than it seems after reading 20 topis where everybody explains the same thing but in different way and jabbing about different versions of wrappers and tweakers... I don't really think it should be this hard. I'm trying here to straighten a few things out while some is not straghtened out.

I of cource have a ATI AIW Radeon card.

    ABOUT THE MMC:

From what I understand.. the TV Application is really crappy and you can't tweak the settings in detail so the this guy make MMC Reg tool whicha basically just makes some changes in the registry.. you might as well do them yourself but of cource it's better to use this program. MMC just tweaks the templates where you capture with MPEG-1 or MPEG-2, right? So.. MMC has nothing to do with the disscussion about AVI capture that can get bigger than 352x288.. am I right?

    ABOUT WDM AND VRITUAL DUB:
In oder to get Virtual Dub to capture with the card you need the WDM wrapper... and that's it... that works... has nothign to do with the MMC.. or?

ABOUT THE FRAME SIZE (Not solved???):
Some can't capture AVI bigger than the normal VCD standard sizes... this is the one problem I have'nt solved and I'm looking into... I'm trying with both TV tool and the Virtual Dub Capture...

    How do I solve this??

I will write a FAQ as soon as I get everythign going.. this is f**king torture after spending 200 dollars on a card that has gotten 8.3/10 in the review section.

Please let's sort this thing out together and we'll save all the confusion.
    Thanx/

  2. ABOUT THE MMC:

This is correct. MMC is for capturing directly to MPEG1 or MPEG2. If you want to capture to AVI and then convert to MPEG (highly highly recommended), use VirtualDub or AVI_IO (which is definately worth the $20 I paid for it).

    ABOUT WDM AND VRITUAL DUB:

Yes and no. It's not a matter of MMC, but rather having the WDM wrapper to make VirtualDub read from the ATI card. Everyone talks about the wrapper... I don't know anything about it. I got my VirtualDub working by downgrading my MMC from 7.1 to 6.3, which internally supports WDM. I never use MMC anyways, so I don't care what version I have.

    ABOUT THE FRAME SIZE:

I don't know anything about this because everything I capture is 352 x 288. Sorry.

And in all honesty, it's well worth the money... once you get it working and everything is working smoothly, and you really don't have a problem again after that... it's such a nice feeling to know you can successfully capture and edit shows. I try to brag whenever I can.

  3. Grrr I hate answering people's questions just to find out they posted it somewhere else and I wasted my time helping them.

Posting the same message on different boards makes baby Jesus cry.

I got everything working now... Tested Capturing 720x576 to AVI in virtual dub without framedropping and SVCD PAL in the TV tool without framedrooping.

I think the key to my success was Direct X 8.1 and MMC 7.5 (Which I found on a completely different site than ATI.com.

I will write a text to this and see if Baldrick will publish.
    Thanx/

  5. This card creates small artifacts during AVI capture and I didn't find any way to get rid of them.

ATI support is non existent, of course.
