  1. Ive read the post and guides and everything I have read basically points to one guide that tells how to put chapters in using vcdeasy but from what I understand from reading the guide hes also using smartripper or chapterx (I think was name of second program) to make the chapters and is importing them with vcdeasy so in turn then I'm assuming the chapters are already made.

I dont have a dvd to rip chapters from im using an divx avi file and would like to add chapters to it my own chapters. I tried useing vcdeasy in the chapters part to put chapters here and there but when the movie is being made I see error in the log about certain areas I'm assuming where the chapters where suppose to be input at and it says ignoring aps, then when the movie is done I dont have chapters.

Well at least I dont have chapters I can skip to, I am not trying to make a selection screen or menu screen just want to be able to skip through chapters rather then having to ff all the way to end of movie to check the last 10 minutes of movie for error/audio sync problems etc.

So my question is to make chapters do I have to have a menu screen?
And is it possible to just make chapters with vcdeasy and I'm just doing something wrong?

Chapters can only be added on an I-Frame. So if you are randomly adding chapters than they will either be placed on the next or previous I-Frame, whichever is closer. This is all those error msgs are telling you. Using normal GOP settings your chapters will be off by about 1 sec. using this method. If you want exact chapters then you will have to manually an I-Frame during encoding. Most encoders have this option. For TMPGenc look in the force picture type setting.

The aps msg you are getting leads me to believe that you have the relax aps setting on in VCDEasy, which can cause all kinds of problems with playback. If you turn this off then your chapters will probably work, yet be a little off.

No you do not need to have a menu to add entrypoint chapters. Once properly authored you should be able to scroll through your chapters during playback by using the next and previous track keys.

It is possible to create "Chapters" on VCDs (the technical name is entrypoint but everybody calls it chapter). In VCDEasy just click the "Chapters" button, select the Segment (ie mpg file) you want and start entering your chapters in the form h:mms.sss. I don't have VCDEasy on this computer so I can't tell you exactly where they go but it should be obvious once you see it on your screen.

Note that an entry-point can only be on an I-frame, but VCDEasy will put the chapter start on the closest I-frame which should be within 0.5sec or so unless you've done funny things with the GOP when you encoded.
