  1. seemingly out of nowhere, some of my .mpg movies, during playback, have a strange image that bounces randomly around the screen. i took a screenshot of what it looks like here...

i tried playing the movies with 4 different players, all the same thing. it happens with some .mpg's but not all (maybe the mpeg2's do it and not the mpeg1's?) if anybody has seen this or know what the heck is going on please let me know! thanks!

  2. Yeah, I've seen this before. What's happening is that you are using the Elecard MPEG2 decoder.

For some unknown (to me) reason, after a little while the new version of the Elecard Decoder (version 2) starts going nuts and spraying the Elecard symbol all over the movie it is decoding.

I don't know if this is beacuse they want you to pay or what, but if it is because of this their documentation doesn't mention it or does a piss-poor job of it because I didn't find an explanation anywhere on there site.

I would suggest uninstalling the Elecard codec (should be accessible through the Windows add/remove programs Wizard) and using a different MPEG2 decoder. I suggest the Fraunhofer codec available here:

    http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/Filters/freedvd.zip

It's free and works fairly well

    Hope this helps,

    Prospero

  3. well the elecard software is now shareware and after 20 days you get the bouncing box. i have tried to locate other codecs to use on this pc at work without having to install a software dvd player. i did just try that link above..but i get errors of file not found when i run the bat file. any other suggestions?
