Alright, I just want to extract about 30 seconds of music from an MP3 into wav format (for conversion to AC3 later on), and I want the ends of the extracted 30 seconds to fade in and fade out. I am just using this for DVD Maestro menu music. Anyone have ideas of really simple tools to do this?

I have SoundForge installed on pc which i would use for the task.
However it's an expensive piece of software!
There's CoolEdit 2000 that you can download - i think this is trialware.
Also what about any software that came bundled with your soundcard?
Most soundcards come with an audio editor bundled with the drivers on the CD.

I have to agree with zedolfblack. CoolEdit is probably what you should use if you have nothing else. CoolEdit is a great program.
