Ok, i tried converting my divx movie to vcd. But evrytime i do it always is out of synch. I tried ripping the music and inserting like vcdhelp said but still no luck. I dont know if it makes a diffrence but I have been using "lowest quality" on all the times i tried. I was wondering if anyone who uses lowest quality ever had out of synch problems. If so then i could just be doing something wrong. I would set it up to a higher quality but my system will take about 20+ hours. So lowest quality is all i can do.

What´s your dvdplayer, or does it go out of sync on your computer also?
what program is you encoding it in? -
I haven't converted a whole divx movie to VCD myself yet,
but I spent most of last night trying to fix a color problem
when converting a divx to mpg (so i could burn it to vcd).
The only times I have ever had audio out of sync (in my short converting career) was when the computer was doing
something other than just converting (screen saver, downloading, browsing the web, reading email).
So I'd recommend a few things:
1) use virtualdub to cut a small sample out of your movie (1 minute clip should do) - it'll save tons of time while you tweak stuff (converting a 1 min clip to test rather than the whole movie that is).
2) disable your screensaver if you can (or set it up with a
really long kick-in delay)
3) don't do anything with the computer while you convert, close as many tasks as possible (disable virus check,
firewall, SETI if you run that, anything else not needed
for conversion)
How fast is your computer? How fast are your harddrives? -
Yea it happens on my cpu and on my dvd player.
BUT!!!! skywize gave me an idea. My freakin screen saver was on all this time. So ill try to do it while its off. Thanx for the advice. Hope it works -
Ok, I give up guessing. What are you using to convert the DivX ?
No matter how many times I read this, I cant figure it out
Someone above did ask you !
I guess most people use TMPGEnce and load a template (PAL or NTSC) but I just looked and can't see any of your settings so please tell us what it is your using, then we can slag it off and recommend TMPGEnc

Yea i am using TMPGEnc. I already told the settings above??? -
Then why are you altering the settings ?. A template load sets them all up for a compliant VCD
-
Look at the frame rate of the divx. If it is 23.976, 29.97 0r 25 for pal it is fairly easy. Strip the sound to pcm using Virtual dub. Check the length of the ripped sound file and the divx file. They should be a couple of milliseconds of each other. Then use TMPeg and use the divx as the video source and ripped sound file as sound source keeping the standard frame rate.
If it is other than the standard frame rate above, you rip the sound, and then change the framerate to match a standard. Then find the length of the resulting sound and video files. Then you have to compress or strech the sound file using cooledit so the sound length and standard framerate video are approx the same. It still might be off a little but you can adjust the sound accordingly. This is a long process if you have to change the frame rate to match the standard. Then use TMPeg to create your VCD or SVCD. -
Ok i should of said this is one of my first times converting. But i still cant really figure it. Here are the settings on my movie:
640 x 272, 24 Bits, 59087 Frames, 24.032 Frames/Sec, 126 KB/Sec, DIVXMPG4 V3
I tried just loading it but it always was out of synch. -
Richdawg. Your problem is your divx framerate is not standard. If you are doing NTSC, then you have to have a framerate of 23.976 or 29.76 in order to create a standard VCD or SVCD. When you change the framerate to a standard, the video time will lengthen or shorten depending on the framerate but the sound will remain the same. Therefore you have to strech on contract the sound to match the new video framerate otherwise your sound will be out of sync.
-
richdawg, it really isnt necessary to change the framerate of your vid file. i had the a/v sync problem for a long time trying to insert or drop frames to create a "compliant" vcd. i finally gave up. i have encoded several movies recently at the original 24 fps and that solved my problem. also, a lot of people seem to have problems dropping the audio from 48 to 44.1 khz. i dont do that anymore either. my jvc deck isnt the best player in the world, but i have had no probs at all with non-standard frame rates, nor have i on my buddy's pioneer 343.
mission impossible 2 was this way, i tried several different methods to get the right a/v sync, including remuxing with bbmpeg ( i DONT reccommend this method, despite what all the experts say, heh.. i like to do it MY way!) i would try as someone else said though and just encode a sample of about 5 or 10 minutes of heavy dilogue sequences though, that should be plenty to tell you wheter youll lose sync. a minute just isnt enough in my experience, especially when youre trying for accuracy.
also... does the file begin out of sync when encoding? if so, the source range option in tmpgenc is an awesome tool. Memento was 900 ms off on the audio encode (as well as being in PAL resolution, which i dropped down to ntsc, left the frame rate as is - perfect a/v sync, and a VERY good picture, as less pixels needed to be filled at the lower resolution...i think)
email me if you have questions...
