  1. I can't fast forward more than 2x on my DVD-R media even when it's and "Archive" of an actual DVD, my best result has been with an archive of The Fifth Element. With that disc I can do 4x FF for a while but then it starts to get jumpy in it's fast forwarding and sometimes jumps tracks.

I've tried using media from Pioneer, Apple, no name brand, etc. None seem to let me fast forward faster than 2x.

I also can't fast reverse at any speed.

Produced with DVDit 2.5 PE, burned with Nero 5.5.9.0 on a Pioneer A03 (tried both 1x, and 2x burns no difference)

Stream captured on Dazzle DVC-II at 8Mbps, 7Mbps, 6Mbps, and 5.5Mbps, I don't like to go any lower than 5.5 as that already looks like Digital Cable quality any less and it looks too fuzy, but at even 6Mbps I would think my player should have no problem fast forwarding at 4x so I don't think it's my capture card.

I also tried producing the MPEG files from Adobe Premier 6.5 but the files are huge and still have problems fast forwarding and fast reverse.

If I could make an ISO or image file from DVDit I would but there's no option for that, that way I could see if the problem is the way nero is burning the files to the disc.

Anyone have better results with other software for production or burning?

  2. I have the same problem with Dazzle DVD Complete using my Sony 500 writer. Anything I burn on DVD+RW stops when I try to seach more than 2X.

    Anybody else have this problem?

  4. Are you guys using DVD-R or DVD+R media? I have installed and reinstalled the program...downloaded all the updates...and nothing works! I also use high quality/expensive DVD+RW discs. Now I'm going to try DVD-RWs...

Any suggestions, please let me know!

    I have done all 4 types (DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW) on the SONY using NERO 5.5.10.7b.

They do FF and FR at all possible speeds on the standalone and on the PC with PowerDVD.

I think the problem may be with the standalone player you are using. Have you tried the disks on the PC?
The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.

  6. I use two standalone Panasonics, a DVD/SACD player released from last year, WinDVD on my Sony Vaio NVR23, and my desktop using PowerDVD. And I STILL cannot speed search more than 2X. It's driving me nuts! I loaded and reloaded EVERYTHING and have downloaded all the patches and upgrades to the software and hardware with no improvements...

    [sigh!]

  7. It has to do with the way the DVD-R was/is authored and then the player that is playing it. It is a combination of the 2. It has NOTHING to do with media of DVD-R. For example:

    1 DVD-R (brand X):
No re-authoring done (just a rip and burn)
    recorded on Pioneer AO4

-plays perfect on all my players (Toshiba, Apex, Panasonic, Daewoo, PS2)

    1 DVD-R (brand X):
recorded with standalone Panasonic HS2 recorder

-Plays perfect on (Panasonic & Toshiba)
-FF 2x only & no REW (Apex, Daewoo & PS2)

  8. Sorry about not paying attention to the posts for a while everybody.

I've found the root of the problem.

First let me answer that no I don't have the problem with any PC Based Player software, WinDVD, PowerDVD, even the crappy software that came with my dazzle Mediamatics, plays the fast forward fine. The problem is on Standalone/Desktop/Console units whatever you want to call them but those things most normal people play DVD's in while in their living room watching their television in an entertainment center etc, etc.

Also like SeargentD says it's not the media but the combination of the burning software and the authoring software.

The problem is with DVDit, Sonic stated to me in a post I can't find the link for that this is a limitation they place on the VOB's in the authoring of the multiplexed files. I've tried other packages DVD Maestro, Reel DVD, etc (all the high end ones seem to work right) and there is no limitation of ff or frw that I've found.

Still I had some problems with Earlier versions of Nero but anything 5.5.9.0 or later seemed to work fine with my pioneer A03, I know the A04 and A05 need slightly later versions and my brothers Sony 500a needed 5.5.9.14 or later.

Also I've heard people moan that Nero doesn't burn "Compliant" DVD's. I'd like to know what does a truly "Compliant" DVD since we don't have the wonderful stamping machines and Fathers and Mothers laying around from which to derive sons to send off to an injection machine. I've found that Nero has worked in every player capable of playing the media I've run into. I think the problems most people have is their player can't read the media (boo hoo go get a $60 apex ad-1500, I have three of them they kick butt for being cheap junkers, and they play everything I've thrown at them)

Anyway I need to get back to work as I'm not sure who's watching me type this since I'm remotely connected to my desktop at my desk from another room.

Hope this clears up any questions, again sorry for not getting back to this post sooner.

  9. After a solid week of trial and error (and error again), I have to believe that DVD Complete is the problems, and not anything else (DVD Workshop trial version and Sonic MyDVD do just fine). But I still wonder just what the heck in the authoring program could cause otherwise perfect burns to be so crappy on playback?

    Anyone have a technical explanation?
