  1. I just read the How to convert to SVCD with TMPGEnc (https://www.videohelp.com/tmpgencsvcd.htm). I encoded fine but then when I try to play it in Windows Media Player it comes up quickly saying it had a problem downloading the codec and keeps playing but all I hear it the audio, there is no video to it.

I then tried to open it up in Virtual Dub with the error 'MPG Import Error pack syncronization error'

I've encoded many VCD's before but this is my first attempt at creating a SVCD. If I take that same clip and encode it to a VCD instead it works just fine so I'm not sure where I'm going wrong in the encoding or if I'm missing a codec or something.

  2. Dont use windows media.

Click on TOOLS on the left hand side..there are a few freeware SVCD players that work very well

I like WINDVD...not freeware but I got a copy of it when I bought ..It was either my cd burner or graphics card..dont remember...it plays everything...

SVCD is MPEG2 - unsupported by Windows Media Player.
    VittualDub also doesn't handle MPEG2

Go to tools section and grab the Maximus DVD Player and Codec.
Also handy is the modified VirtualDub-MPEG2 located on Tools page as well.
