hey guys,

my first post here but I frequent this site often. first off lemme tell you what kinda box i am running.

Abit KT7A-Raid
1.4 GHZ Athlon 266 FSB
768 MB Kingmax PC 150
Plextor 16/1040a
Hitachi GD-7500 12X DVD Rom
(2) IBM 40GB 60GXP running in a RAID 0 config
(1) IBM 45GB 75GXP (the drive I am burning off of)
(1) Western Digital 40GB ATA100/7200RPM drive
Windows XP

Well here's the issue. I goto the computer show a few weeks back and find these 10X CD-RW's that are 80 MIN and 700 MB's. I haven't really kept up on CD-RW's and was suprised to see that they were offering them with more storage now. Bought them for a decent price, get them home, and everytime I try and burn a VCD (or anything for that matter) CDRWin (or whatever burning app) tells me BAD MEDIA blah blah. So I figure these are just crap CDRW's since I did get them at a show. I go to compusa and get their house brand CD-RW--again, 10X 80min/700mb. First one burns the VCD fine then every single one from then on comes up with the same error message that the others did. Now up until now I haven't had a problem burning VCD's onto CD-RW with the 10x 74min Verbatim that came with my burner and a 4x Imation.

So by now you may be asking yourself, "why the hell is he using CDRW's to burn VCD's?" Well, I found out a few weeks ago, thanks to this site, that my DVD player, a Sony S360 (or something like that) plays CDRW's. Sure enough they were right and I've enjoyed movies on my TV.

So I've concluded that this burner (and others, I have tested) cannot burn onto 80 min cdrw's. But then, why did it burn the first CompUSA brand 80 min cdrw perfect? Weird right? And to top it all off, that 1st CD of that movie on that disc played perfect. Tried to burn the 2nd CD onto the Verbatim disc, and now that disc doesn't play. I am seriously thinking about selling my Sony and just getting an Apex or Pioneer so I could just burn them on cheaper cd-r's. Has anyone had any kind of experience with all of this and if so, wanna give me some insight into the problem? Thanks ahead of time.
