My DVD player wouldn't play the VCD on a CDR but it worked fine on a CDRW. Is there anything I can do to continue to make VCD's to watch on my dvd player without having to buy a stack of exspensive CDRWs

I'm having the same problem!!!
my cdrw's work fine in my stand-alone dvd player,
but my cdr's only work on my computers(dvd and cd)drives.
cdrw is not that expensive, just not as cheep as cdr's.
and I have tried 5 brands of cdr's -
Mark, that is a common problem due to the density difference tween CDRs and CDRWs....it is very common to fine players, particularly 2+ year older players, to play CDRWs fine, but not CDRs, especially the cheap CDRs.

I have the same problem with a JVC DVD player - only takes CDRWs. Read some of the details on the differences between CDRs and CDRWs and you'll see why.
CDRWs aren't really that expensive and if you shop around you can find them for about 50 cents each.
Since you can erase CDRWs, you only need to save the original AVI or whatever. When you want to watch the movie over again, just reconvert it and put it back on the same CDRW. It just takes some time. Or, if you have a hard drive big enough, save the converted MPEG-1. -

Why not make a CDr ready for the future player upgrade, then if you want to watch it now, do a disk to disk cdr to cdrw
