  1. A mate of mine burnt me a VCD movie and gave me his original copy of it to burn for myself.

Although when I try to burn it it won't read the file on the cd properly and gives me a read error.

I have tried creating a disk image, i have tried just copying the .bin file to my hard drive, i have tried using virtual dub and converting the file off the cd to a mpg, and of course i have tried a simple copy straight from the cd but it always gets to around 80% of reading the file then gives me a read error.

I have checked the cd for scratches but it is brand new.

    Any help would be great.

To at least get the movie. Copy the *.DAT file to your HD and rename it to mpg then burn as VCD in NERO!
    Thanx/

  4. Try to use VCDGear 2.0, and extract a mpg out of the dat, VCDGear corrects block(s) that are corrupt.

A disc to disc copy will work fine, but it sounds like the disc is curupt. Sounds like it had a buffer underun when produced, that way it looks as if its all there, but its not....

Try reading the disk in your burner not a cd reader, they seam to be able to read anything.

  6. Unfortunately I only have the one cd drive and it's CD-RW, so I can't try a disk to disk copy.

I'll have to ask a mate if he can try and copy it for us.

Yes you can... disk to disk
source and destination is the same drive, It reads in the source then asks for a blank disk !

But if you have problems with file copy, the second disk will also have the same problems using disk to disk.

  9. use either clonecd, blindread, cdrwin, or nero.
and on the read options you should turn on the "Ignore Error". On nero it's on Read Options->Data Tracks->"continue Copying"
and you should also set the retry to "1" so it wuold be a lot faster to copy.

  10. thanks Xer0cooL, i'll give that a try.

Is there a point in making another copy of this disk? you will end up with another coaster.

  13. Of course there is a point if he wants a copy of the disc.

VCDs can play fine even if there are unrecoverable disc errors. The most likely thing that will happen is that you will have a glitch at the point of the disc with the error on playback. If you're lucky, you'll see nothing at all. Read errors, though undesirable, are hardly a problem for VCDs. This is one of the reasons the video tracks are burnt in Mode2 Form2 in the first place.

If you having problems, try one of the proggies suggested by Xer0cooL. Blindread should be able to copy just about anything. Of course, the copied disc will have a mpeg stream error at that point too... but apart from a playback glitch, it shouldn't be a problem.

    Regards.

Getting his mate to make another copy would be a lot better than making another curupt disk.

Of course. But I would have presumed that his mate would have long deleted the source files from his HDD. How often do you keep your source MPEGs lying around after you've burnt a VCD?

  16. Yeah he's deleted the source files from his hard drive and gave me his original cd for me to make a back up for myself because he was having the same trouble i was.

Where can I find either clonecd or blindread??

I can't find the options on Nero that Xer0cooL is talking about...Read Options->Data Tracks->"continue Copying".

Where abouts can I find them?
