  1. If you have an ATI AIW card that allows you to cap using the ATI VCR2 CODEC, could you please search your hard drive and/or install CD for the file VCR2API.DLL?

I need this file to capture in VCR2 CODEC please, any help please?

    Thanks...

  2. i don't have it on me, but i do know that ATI has a download of the VCR1/2 codecs called ATIVCRx.exe or something along those lines that you can download off their support website. i think the easiest way to find it is to look under the FAQ for the radeon cards, since they don't come with VFW support, they have this codec-only install package to play back old AVI's recorded in ATI VCR codecs.

    Hi

I did some capturing with this when I had a ATI TV card, but later changed to a WinTV. Well all the captures I made would no longer work, so I email ATI, they sent me a link to download the codec's.

I dont seam to have them anymore, if they cannot be found on the ATI site, drop them an email.

  4. patrickm, thanks for the effort, but those are only the decompression codecs, I need the dll for doing the compression, they have them broken up into two dlls for each task.

    Thanks much!

  5. then i would guess they should be included in either MMC 6.3 or the 5.3+ versions of TV Player (for AIW Pro 4M/8M cards) which can still be downloaded.

however, i think the newer versions (that work on win98+) are locked from other programs using them. i tried with a couple programs, but could never get it to work.

like i said, the TV Player is still available. while you can't use it with the new cards, it's a candidate to install and extract the file...

I guess that file is diffrent, but I downloaded it anyway.

    Just one note.
If you have the card you'll have the CD and the codecs are on that.
They are also in all drivers from ati on the website. They install in c:\ati . They also can be extracted by winzip.
You can also order a CD if you have the serial number from your card.

  13. Thanks for the assistance! I just did a search for "Grokster" so I could look up what you found, but nothing came up in the search!

Could you provide me with a URL please? Ill take it from there...

What Im trying to do folks, which I was trying to cloak in darkness untill I found sucess is try to get the VCR2 CODEC to work with an ATI TV-Wonder VE.. Now, *that* would benefit a lot of folks! Ive some some research on this and Im pretty sure it can be done, and with my programming experience, and computer experience I feel pretty certian that I would have sucess. Ive already found what I need to enter into the registry, and where the file needs to reside, but until I have the file and add it to the registry I dont know if it will work quite yet!

For those familiar with VCR2 codec, its 150% improvment over VCR1... And those familiar with the TV Wonder cards know it displays very nice, but only offers VCR1 codec, yuch!! Im 99% sure its ATIs way of prodding you to buy a more expensive card. The TV Wonder uses the same Brooktree 878 (?) chipset, its in essense the same TV tuner as is on ATI AIW 128!!! And, you all know that card does VCR2, and you all also know its a SOFTWARE CODEC, so its not entirly the hardware that matters.

Wish me luck, I think Im getting closer! If I hit paydirt, Ill submit an article to VCDHELPER.COM for public postin, along with files, detailed directions and acknowledgements to all that helped! Thanks again!

(If I fail, you wont see anything... HAHA!)

  16. VideoGuy-
I'm at work right now, but if you'll send an email to config.sys@mindless.com, I can probably send you the file that you need. I've got a ATI AIW Pro with the Rage chipset.

And on that subject, (for anyone?) I can capture fine, and checking a file, it comes up as a white book compliant vcd file. Yet when I try to burn using Easy CD Creator 5 Platinum, my system consistently locks when I try to add the file to the disc layout. Any suggestions?

  17. Thanks everyone, for all your help. However, Ive ditched the project since VCR2 appears to be built into the MMC software, and I simply wont be able to use that codec with this card.

Ive switched to Hauppague WinTV GO and CinePlayer DVR for MPEG1 and 2 capturing, and AVI_IO for uncompressed AVI caps. Im haveing much more luck getting good quality videos to VCD now.

Thanks again, no further repies are needed, you can consider this topic to be closed...
