  1. I have two files which are Xvid format AVIs, with AC3 sound. I have tried to strip out the WAV using Virtual Dub, then putting the file through AVIFIX, but the file I end up with is not accepted by TMPGENC (2.59). When I try and open the file as the Audio section of my project, TMPGENC says 'unable to open file, or unsupported format'.

The file from Vitual Dub is called 'sound.wav', after AVIFIX the file is called 'sound2.wav'. I have played the files through Media Player, and before AVIFIX it sounds scrambled, after AVIFIX it sounds fine.

    Can anybody help please!!

  2. In vdub tick the audi stream and save out the file as a wave format with an ac3 extension e.g. xxx.ac3.

When you have done this it will save the file with a wav extension, delete this in explorer. Load the file into headac3e and using the default settings save out the wave file.

You now have a wave file that you can use as the audio source in tmpgenc. Use the existing file as your video source and encode a small amount to ensure the film is in synch. If it is, leave it to encode the whole file.

    Hope this helps

  3. Thanks for that, all sorted now.

The AC3 is Dolby 5.1 sound so I hear, pretty impressive.

Next I am going to try to convert AC3 to Dolby Prologic for use on VCD, using BeSweet. More tears no doubt.
