I'm returning this card, I can't deal with the flickering.
All the video, unless it's off tv, looks like shit.
I've updated all the drivers, my whole system BIOS, I have an Intel chipset, not VIA
Do you think I just got a bad card, or is it a major problem.

And if this is a major problem w/ the VE cards, what is a good capture card that can
Watch TV
Record AVI's via third party Apps.
Also a question, hardware MPEG encoders, are they able to be used by Virtual Dub or other program to record AVI or is it MPEG only? -
Most hardware encoder cards cannot be used by Virtualdub or any other third party capture programs (unless they come with a plug-in). They output mpeg encoded video only (most of them).
I have not heard of any flickering problems with a BT8x8 card before. The computer screeen is normally refreshed more often than regular TV, so there should be no flickering. If you are refering to interlacing artifacts, all capture cards will have this. Your PC use progressive scanning, not interlaced. Some capture applications use a deinterlacer for viewing to remove the interlace artifacts. The ATI card is just as good as any other BT8x8 capture card. Some people have problems capturing over x240, but that is a driver issue. Use generic drivers for full capture resolution support. The Hauppauge WinTV and ATI Wonder PCI cards are basically all the same. -
I'm going to exchange it, maybe the one i got has a faulty macrovision circut or something?
Plus if I exchange, I don't have to pay the 15% restocking fee. -
if you get the all in wonder (non ve) you can download a patch to turn off macrovision from divx-digest.com
This is the easiest way to backup your dvd's -
I got a new one no problem.
Same problems though.
IS the HAPPANAUGE CARD GOOD, W/ the hardware MPEG?
Will moving the card to a different PCI slot affect anything? -
i know a housemate who has a VE all in wonder. i can ask him to give you his email?

The only TV Tuner cards from Hauppauge with a hardware encoder is the PVR models (PVR, PVR-250/350). All the other models have a BT8x8 chip and no hardware encoding.

Im getting the 250.
Can any 3rd party apps use it?
Can it record AVI? -
I have not seen any third party capture software for the PVR-250. Unless someone has found another driver (WDM), then the card cannot capture AVI. The stream coming from the card is mpeg only. The original PVR from Hauppauge, does have a WDM driver available.
