I have downloaded a avi file of a movie, and the audio has been encoded incorrectly. I have extracted the audio using a program called avi2wav, I was wondering if there is a program that would extract the video as well like what avi2wav does.

How do you know that the audio stream was encoded incorrectly? If you got this messagebox in VirtualDub, select Audio/Full Processing Mode, Audio/Compression/No Compression and Audio/Conversion/16bit,stereo,High Quality. Then "Save WAV..." and you have your audio.
If you want the pure video, set Audio/No Audio and Video/Direct Stream Copy, then Save to AVI.There are only 10 types of people in the world:

ah, thanx for that tip it worked a treat. I do apologise I don't have much experience with VDub.

ok, ran the original avi file through tmpgenc, audio is out of sunc with video. ran the extract audio and video through tmpgenc audio is still out of sync, any tips on what to do?
also, I've noticed if I leave the source range alone and leave it set to start frame 0 end frame -1 it says the avi is 174mins but if I click on move to end frame then click set end frame on the last frame of the avi file it says the movies length is now 71 mins, why is that? -
If you can't get audio and video sync, you might take a look at this thread.
As for end frame -1, that isn't possible. If you want to select everything, end frame should be 0 (1 if you don't want the last frame). This number indicates the frame count from the end backwards, so it is always positive. Anyway, nearly 3 hours of movie in one DivX file isn't very likely. There are only 10 types of people in the world:
