  1. Hi everyone out there!
I've tried a lot but did not come to good results. So I now look for help.
I'd like to capture on movie recorded on VHS-tape with Ulead 6, cut the commercials off and burn the result after encoding with TMPGEnc as SVCD. So far so bad.
The results I got have had blocknoises, were out of sync an more.
Can anyone give me a suggestion in which format I have to capture the movie (mpeg, avi [which?]), what format I have to use as output from Ulead to get good results after encoding with TMPGEnc?
    Thanx alot

  2. I use Video Studio 6 to capture from my ADS Instant DVD and get very good results as long as I capture in DVD mode with 5 mb/s or better bitrate. I then use TMPEGenc to render down to SVCD. If I use VS6 to capture directly to SVCD, I get blockiness and some stutter. I don't think the encoder in VS6 is very good compared to TMPEGenc.

With the captures at DVD quality (5 mb/s), I can edit, cut out segments and rejoin without loss of sync and with pretty good quality. I have noticed that it is best to edit each segment only once as each edit degrades quality. So I trim a segment and make any adjustments and then save that segment. When I get all of the segments I want saved separately, then I drag them all into the storyboard in sequence, add titles, transitions, etc and when everything looks good, I render to the SAME format as the original capture with Smart Render checked (this minimizes re-encoding). I then take that output file and re-render to SVCD format using TMPEGenc. I have found that this gives the best results for me.

  3. Tried out the suggestions. But my TMPGEnc can't read the DV-File captured in Ulead (just green frames an nothing else).
I also tried to capture "normal" avi and mpg with Ulead and VirtualDub. But I only can capture up to a resolution of 352 x 288. In Ulead I got "File may be corrupt an will be deleted" and in VDub there's an error 411 (without explanation).
Do I have another problem that I not have recognized yet?
