  1. Im having trouble with bbmpeg messing up high bitrate XSVCDs (720X480 >3000 kb/s)

1- When using bbmpeg to cut and multiplex mpeg2 video streams and mpeg1 audio steams,
AND authoring the CDs as non standard SVCD using NERO, the max bitrate that would play
back on my Norcent DP-300 without skipping is about 2900 kb/s MAX combined audio & video.

2- When burning the CDs in the same way as #1 but the material was muxed using the TMPGENC MPEG
TOOLS, or if the material was encoded using TMPGENC for video as well as audio to begin with
"System(Video+Audio)" option in the front screen, max playback bitrate on the Norcent goes up to
    4500 kb/s without a glich EVER.

Although it's not always practical to encode at 4500 kb/s, it's nice to have some play in what speed your
player will be able to handle.

I'm wondering if anyone has ever noticed this problem with cutting high bitrate MPG2 files with bbmpeg ???
It's driving me nuts because it makes the entire procedure of backing up a DVD that much more complicated.

    Hi,
I have noticed the same with my Panasonic RV31, although with lower bitrates. When multiplexing with bbmpeg, a MPG with VBR higher than 1400 (mean) plays choppy. However, when doing all the job with TMPGEnc I can play VBR MPGs up to 1800/2400 (mean/max) (or maybe higher, I have not tested...).
But I noticed that the difference is not in the tool used to multiplex. If audio and video are encoded separately, then it doesn't matter wether I multiplex with the TMPGEnc multiplexing tool or with bbmpeg, it plays choppy anyway. The only way to have a high bitrate MPG that plays well is encoding audio and video together as TMPGEnc usually does.

This brings me to my problem: I can not join/cut any MPG with high bitrate because the join/cut tool of TMPGEnc demultiplexes and then remultiplexes the video. Is there a way of cutting an MPG file without demultiplexing and remultiplexing it??

    Thanks.

  3. Hi.

Try setting the "Forced Mux Rate" in bbmpeg's option to 0 (so it calculates the correct mux rate on its own).

    Good Luck.

    thanks, I'll try this tonight.
If this works I owe you one !

Have you had this problem before ??

  6. Damn !
It was already set to "0". It's been that way all along.
    Any other ideas ?

Pack Options ?? (Set to 2324).

I also tried shoosing "DVD" instead of SVCD in the "Program Stream Settings" and I can get a little higher bitrates that way, and when it skips it's not as bad, but still not as high bitrates as when bbmpeg isn't used at all.

Anyone know what the "DVD" vs "SVCD" setting changes in bbmpeg ??

    thanks again.
