What is different/better about black CD-Rs?

  2. 1) Black CD-Rs are perfect for PSX backups (it doesn't mean you don't need a mod chip!)

    2) they block UV (sun light) better, so they live longer

  3. I don't know about the psx backup, but here are the reasons I use Black CD-R's for my VCDs in order of what is important to me.

    1. It Looks Cool.
    2. Better scratch protection. They still scrach, but it is easier for my machine to read data. Even in a scratched area of the disk.
    3. It does provide UV protection to the media layer.
    4. Hides the data section of the disk (not very important to me but for some people it might be).
    5. Did I mention they look cool. After all aren't we doing this for fun.

  6. Black cd-rs definitely do look cool, you still have to have a mod chip for psx backups though, unless your special like 'bobotns'. Supposedly they work in older cd-rom drives that don't work with other cd-r media. I've only used them for audio so far, and they work great.
I bought mine at compusa in a 16 pack to try them out. You can get them in 50 pack spindles too for around 25 dollars. Compusa had their own brand and Memorex brand too.

  10. I got the CompUSA 50 pack for $20US on sale. I have only had one failure on them (due to my system) and they have played in anything that I have thrown them at which supports CD-R disks.
