  1. Hello,

Looking around the forum I've seen several threads where people who use DVD Workshop (and other authoring software) use Nero to burn their DVDs.

I'm kinda new to this so I'm wondering why people are using Nero instead of just burning it with the authoring software.

For example, I'm messing around with DVD Workshop and I've been able to author and burn the DVDs in that product. What benefit would I get from using Nero instead for the burning step?

  3. I'm using VCDEasy simply for the fact that I can create menued chapters. I love the way I can control each step as I author the VCD to my liking. The nice thing about the software is that I can put the original menus from the DVD and add menu numbers to the items. I then burn the image directly from the program. Sweet.

  5. Two answers:

    1. DVDWS does not support every DVD+/-R/W drive. When I used DVDWS I burned with Nero because an HP DVD100i was not a supported drive.

    2. To burn with Nero, tell DVDWS to create DVD Video Files only. This will create a VIDEO_TS folder that you can then drag-and-drop into a Nero DVD compilation.

For me, DVDWS 1.3 has a problem when burning.

When it's done burning a disc, the meter will sit there at 100%, presumably waiting for the "function completed" box to appear. But the function completed box doesn't appear. I've waited 30-45 minutes, and DVDWS just sat there.

I couldn't cancel, that button was greyed out. The drive wouldn't open to eject the disc, either.

I couldn't CTRL-ALT-DEL either. I got a message saying DVDWS is waiting for an answer to a dialog box (even though there is NO dialog box there), presumably the non-existant "function completed" box.

I tried to shut down the whole computer. The PC hung on the "Windows XP is shutting down" screen for ten minutes.

I finally said "screw this" and hit the reset button.

After I went through this three times, I started using Nero to do the actual burning and haven't had the problem since.

I haven't a clue -- Nero has been nothing but buggy for me when burning DVD-Video DVD-Rs. They play great on my software player but my standalone doesn't recognize them. I suppose I could mess around with the UDF/ISO/etc. settings and maybe figure the problem out...

Personally, I use DVD-Decrypter when I am burning DVD-Video ISO files to DVD-R and Prassi's PrimoDVD when burning AUDIO_TS/VIDEO_TS folders to DVD-R.

Listen, there is absolutely no reason to deal with any of the problems encountered with either of these sub-par burning utilities, get yourself a copy of Gear Pro DVD and all your nightmares will be over, this program only allows you to burn complient DVDs I found that this was the only solution to all the coasters made by lesser programs.

This is the only problem with Gear Pro DVD, It is a very expensive utility you can purchase it online for something like $250 for the stripped down version or maybe you could try being a little more crafty in your search I'm sure you could find someone with a zipped copy. Just search google for dvd pro and go to their site they will have a demo version available for a thirty day trial if you are at all sceptical.
