  1. I need your help.

I have a dat file which I want to burn.

I use dat-->mpg function in VCDgear and it creates 1 or more mpg files.

Those files need to be filtered again usng mpg-->mpg (VCD gear) then I burn with NERO and it works.

My question:How come when I disable file splitting the mpg that is created doesn't get recongnized from NEro as a Valid VCD?

I know I can use merge programs to put the pieces together. I am wondering why do I need to mpg the already mpg files for it to burn properly.

    Thanks in advance,

If you have multiple (VCD) mpgs there is no need for them to be combined when burning to VCD using Nero. Just drop the multiple mpgs into Nero.

  3. Thanls for your reply.

What I really want to know is why once I convert from dat to mpg, I need to convert again all the mpg files to mpg (vcd gear mpg--> mpg) in order for it to work.

Could it be the fact that I am using NERO 5578 to burn? It does work but whenever the next track kicks in, there is a pause. I would like to know how come when I disable the splitting option, it NERO doesn't recognize the files as valid VCD files.

I am not sure of the exact technical reason, but it seems you have a method that works - which is good. When I want to convert a .dat to .mpg (.dat containing a single .mpg) I first rename the .dat to .mpg. Although this will play on my PC it is not a VCD-compatible mpeg. To make it so I next multiplex using TMPG mpeg tools. The file still has the same name but it has a slighltly different size, and Nero will now accept it as VCD-compatible. The same sort of thing is what you are experiencing.

Maybe someone can explain what the multiplexing does (or the extra stage in VCDgear)? However, since you can get your desired result, I am not sure why you are worrying about it.

If you want to avoid the pause, and the mpegs follow on from one another, you can join them with TMPG before burning with Nero. What you are experiencing I do not think has anything to do with the version of Nero you are using.

Perhaps an easier way is to use VCDEasy to convert the DAT to MPG, I believe there is a guide here. Then burn to CD using VCDEasy. I suppose other burners will work as well. No intermediate steps.

If you are downloading the files, I bet CD1 has 2 MPG's and CD2 has only 1. Throw that first little file(sometimes 2) away and just burn the big MPG's. You don't need to see whoever authored the VCD own intro file.
