    Hi there

did you download this mpeg ? It sounds like it may not be an mpeg at all .

I have had problems with downloaded mpegs, (mostly promo clips for shows like Enterprise) which have actually been all sorts of formats including wmv, mov and rm. Sometimes they have been renamed innocently but sometimes people use wmv (windows movie maker) or similar formats to embed links to web pages etc. then rename the extensions, since windows media player just opens the thing then checks the format and doesnt care about the extension this sometimes results in a few thousand pop up windows, arghhhh!

But, back to your problem, it sounds to me like you have a real player or quicktime movie at a lower frame rate than 25/30fps which has been renamed to mpg. You may want to get hold of a copy of bitrate viewer and virtualdub (see the tools section on the left) and try loading it into those. Bitrate viewer, (I think someone tell me if Im wrong), handles mpeg 2 only and virtualdub unchanged,(Ie the original not some of the offshoots circulating around the web and without DVD2AVI assistance), can only open mpeg1s, but if you can open the file in either of these then they both have information displays (bitrate viewer shows the info on the right hand side of the screen, virtual dub file/file information), which should help you out.

    Hope that helps

    Regards
