  1. I have an ATI Radeon 7500 AIW Card, and a firewire card w/ DV camera. I am trying to make dvd's from an analog source by running the signal into my AIW via S-video connection. I capture the file(s) at 720X480 mpeg2 with 48kHz stereo audio. I thought that this was considered a "DVD standard" format. The problem is, everytime I try to author a dvd with the video, it says it will take like 26 hours or so to convert the files. I guess I am wondering if there is a way to capture video that will take minimal conversion effort to get to true dvd format. I have tried several dvd authoring programs and most have similar results. Is it as simple as changing the capture format, or should I scrap the AIW and somehow use my firewire? Thanks in advance.

  2. If you are capturing with ATI MMC, what version of it are you running? 7.7.0.1, correct?
As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war."

  3. If you have DV, why bother doing it in analog? Its faster and easier to use. Check your settings and the file extension on your source files before you bring it into the authoring program. BTW which authoring program are you using?

  4. Yes, I am using 7.7.0.1. I guess I am just confused as to why when I capture in the 'dvd format' it seems that the software I use needs to start from scratch, reencoding the files. I have tried Sonic's myDVD which came with my burner, also DVDit. I have a firewire card and digital camcorder that I can use as an AV->DV converter for my analog source if needed, but I just thought the ati software would give me the format that I needed right off the bat.
